Overlook is a neighborhood in the North section of Portland, Oregon on the east shore of the Willamette River. North Prescott Street is a light rail station on the MAX Yellow Line in Portland, Oregon. It is the 4th stop northbound on the Interstate MAX extension. Abandoned & Little-Known Airfields
Abandoned & Little-Known Airfields is a website detailing information and first hand memories about airports in the United States which are no longer in operation, or are rarely used. The website was started by Paul Freeman in 1999 as he had developed an interest on the subject. In 2015, there were over 2,000 airports chronicled on the site and it had been viewed over 1.7 million times. In the US, airports close at about a rate of one per week. Kaiser Shipyards
The Kaiser Shipyards were seven major shipbuilding yards located on the West Coast of the United States, United States west coast during World War II. Kaiser ranked 20th among U.S. corporations in the value of wartime production contracts. The shipyards were owned by the Kaiser Shipbuilding Company, a creation of American industrialist Henry J. Kaiser (1882–1967), who established the shipbuilding company around 1939 in order to help meet the construction goals set by the United States Maritime Commission for merchant shipping. Four of the Kaiser Shipyards were located in Richmond, California, and were called the Richmond Shipyards. Swan Island Municipal Airport
The Swan Island Municipal Airport was a joint civil-military airport that was operational on Swan Island in Portland, Oregon. Though it officially opened in 1927, the United States Postal Service had been using the airfield for a year. After the Portland–Columbia Super Airport was completed in the late 1930s, Swan Island Municipal Airport had little use since its runways were too small for newer aircraft and the low altitude made takeoffs and landings difficult. The airport was operational for nearly two decades, but due in part to the advances in aviation, it became obsolete soon after its construction. Swan Island (Oregon)
Swan Island is located on the Willamette River about downriver from downtown Portland, Oregon, United States. Although presently connected to the Willamette's east bank by Land reclamation, land fill, it existed as a river island under natural conditions. Swan Island and a nearby Bar (river morphology), bar posed an obstacle to river traffic during the 19th and early 20th centuries, with larger vessels being restricted to a narrow channel on the island's east side. Proposals on how to improve navigation around the island included widening one of its channels or removing the island completely. Swan Island was acquired by the Port of Portland (Oregon), Port of Portland in 1921. The Port undertook dredging to expand the channel on the island's west side, using some of the dredged material to connect the island to the Willamette's east bank.
