Offenbach Am Main
Offenbach am Main () is a List of cities and towns in Germany, city in Hesse, Germany, on the left bank of the river Main (river), Main. It borders Frankfurt and is part of the Frankfurt urban area and the larger Frankfurt Rhein-Main Regional Authority, Frankfurt Rhein-Main urban area. It has a population of 138,335 (December 2018). In the 20th century, the city's economy was built on machine-building, leather-making, typography and design, and the automobile and pharmaceutical industries. History The first documented reference to a suburb of Offenbach appears in 770. In a document of the Holy Roman Otto II, Holy Roman Emperor, Emperor Otto II dating to 977 exists the first mention of the place of Offenbach. During the Middle Ages Offenbach passed through many hands. Rudolf Koch
Rudolf Koch (20 November 1876 – 9 April 1934) was a German type designer, professor, and a master of lettering, calligraphy, typography and illustration. Commonly known for his typefaces created for the Klingspor Type Foundry, his most widely used typefaces include Neuland and Kabel (typeface), Kabel. Overview Koch spent his teenage years working in Hanau as an apprentice in a metal goods workshop, whilst also attending art school, where he learned to draw, and soon after went to the Academy of Fine Arts, Nuremberg. Between 1897 and 1906, he worked for various businesses in the book trade in Leipzig, illustrating and designing book covers in the Art Nouveau style that was popular at the time. In 1906, Koch began working for the Rudhard Type foundry in Offenbach am Main, Offenbach, later known as the Klingspor Type foundry. Offenbach-Rosenhöhe
Rosenhöhe (or Rosenhoehe) is one of the 21 boroughs of Offenbach am Main, Germany. It is the city's southernmost borough and the second smallest by population with only 1,396 inhabitants. Until 2019 it was one of the nine officially recognized boroughs. When in July 2019 the city council approved a bill to fully divide the city's area into boroughs, Rosenhöhe became the second largest by area after Bieber. The total area is 7,08 km2 (2,73 sq mi). Rosenhöhe borders the boroughs of ''Carl-Ulrich-Siedlung'' and ''Lauterborn'' in the north, ''Buchrain'' in the west and ''Tempelsee'' in the east. The southern border of Rosenhöhe is shared with the Offenbach city limits, bordering the towns of Neu-Isenburg, Dreieich and Heusenstamm. Bieber is a village in Hesse, Germany, with a total population of 16,137 as of 2020. Since 1938 it has been a ''Stadtteil'' of Offenbach am Main. Geography A small river, a tributary of the Rodau called '' Bieber'' flows through the village. At the top of the hill ''Bieberer Berg'' (elevation 120 m above NHN) stands the soccer-stadium '' Sparda Bank Hessen Stadion'', formerly the '' Stadion Bieberer Berg'', home of the soccer team ''Kickers Offenbach''. Offenbach-Lauterborn
Lauterborn is a quarter (''Stadtteil'') of Offenbach am Main, Germany, with approximately 9,500 inhabitants (2020). It is located in the south-east part of the town and borders Frankfurt and the municipal forest. History Lauterborn was the historic name of a fountain. The district was built from the 1960s on with terraced houses and apartment blocks. A half dozen atrium houses were constructed by the famous architect Egon Eiermann. The central park is called "John-F.-Kennedy-Promenade". Until the 1990s there were some smaller factories and a truck garage of the US Army next to Lauterborn.
