Odžaci ( sr-cyrl, Оџаци, ; ) is a town and municipality located in the West Bačka District of the autonomous province of Vojvodina, Serbia. The town of Odžaci has a population of 7,556 people, while the population of the municipality of Odžaci is 24,926 people (2022 census). Name The name ''Odžaci'' / Оџаци means "chimneys" in Serbian. Formerly, the settlement was also known as ''Odžak'' / Оџак ("chimney"). The Slavic/Serbian word "odžak" (or plural "odžaci") is a modification of the Turkish word "Ocak" (bearing the same pronunciation), meaning "fireplace". In Croatian, the town is also known as ''Odžaci'', in Hungarian as ''Hódság'', and in German as ''Hodschag''. Goran Nikolić (politician)
Goran Nikolić ( sr-cyr, Горан Николић; born 1967) is a politician in Serbia. He has served in the National Assembly of Serbia from 2016 to 2020, at which time he became the mayor of Odžaci. Nikolić is a member of Serbian Progressive Party. Private career Nikolić is a customs officer in Odžaci in the autonomous province of Vojvodina. Politician Nikolić received the twenty-fifth position on the Progressive Party's '' Let's Get Vojvodina Moving'' electoral list in the 2012 Vojvodina provincial election. (At this time, half the seats in the Assembly of Vojvodina were determined by proportional representation and half by single-member constituency elections.) Ratkovo
Ratkovo ( sr-cyr, Ратково) is a village located in the Odžaci municipality, West Bačka District, Vojvodina, Serbia. As of 2011, the population of the village is 3,411 inhabitants. Name The former name of the town was Parabuć (). In German language, German, it was known as ''Parabutsch'', and in Hungarian language, Hungarian as ''Paripás'' or ''Parabuty''. In 1948, it was renamed Ratkovo for , a Yugoslav fighter in the Spanish Civil War. History The village was first mentioned in 1543. During the Ottoman Empire, Ottoman rule (16th-17th century), Parabuć was populated by Serbs. Bački Gračac () is a village located in the Odžaci municipality, in the West Bačka District of Serbia. It is situated in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. The population of the village is 2,913 people (2002 census), of whom 2,810 are ethnic Serbs. This village is a former site of genocide. Bačka
Bačka ( sr-Cyrl, Бачка, ) or Bácska (), is a geographical and historical area within the Pannonian Plain bordered by the river Danube to the west and south, and by the river Tisza to the east. It is divided between Serbia and Hungary. Most of the area is located within the Vojvodina region in Serbia and Novi Sad, the capital of Vojvodina, lies on the border between Bačka and Syrmia.
