North Wall, Dublin
North Wall () is an area east of the inner north side of Dublin, along the River Liffey where it forms one of the Dublin quays. The name refers to the North Bull Wall, which was constructed to form Dublin Port, extend the Liffey estuary and reclaim land at various stages from the early 1700s until its final completion around 1825. The area is today used to refer to the area between Sheriff Street and the River Liffey. It contains the entire north side of Dublin Docklands and includes the International Financial Services Centre, Spencer Dock, and further east, the main part of Dublin Port. History The North Lotts area was mainly created between 1717 and 1729 after Dublin Corporation had, earlier in 1717-18, drawn lots and distributed the land between themselves in this manner. North Strand (Irish language, Irish: ''An Trá Thuaidh'' ) is a residential inner city neighbourhood on the Northside, Dublin, Northside of Dublin, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Location and access The area is physically bounded by the River Tolka to the north and the railway tracks to the east. North Strand is considered to extend to the Five Lamps (Dublin), Five Lamps junction to the south, and to neighbouring Ballybough to the northwest. The 3Arena (originally The O2) is an indoor amphitheatre located at North Wall Quay in the Dublin Docklands in Dublin, Ireland. The venue opened as The O2 on 16 December 2008 and was re-branded on 4 September 2014 due to the takeover of O2 Ireland by Three Ireland. The venue is owned by a Live Nation subsidiary, Apollo Leisure Group Ltd. and is among the top ten busiest music arenas by ticket sales in the world. Dublinbikes (styled "dublinbikes") is a public bicycle rental scheme which has operated in the city of Dublin since 2009. At its launch, the scheme, which is sponsored by JCDecaux, used 450 French-made unisex bicycles with 40 stations. By 2011, this had expanded to 550 bicycles and 44 stations, and in 2013 it was announced that a major expansion of the scheme would add a further 950 bikes and another 58 hire points. Dublin was the 17th city to implement such a scheme, and it was considered one of the most successful bike-sharing schemes in the world; however, progress later stalled, with only 2 of 14 phases being rolled out. the scheme lost €376,000 a year, leading to further expansion of Dublin Bikes being put on hold. George's Dock, Dublin
George's Dock () is a Georgian dock in the Docklands area of Dublin forming part of the International Financial Services Centre. History Located near the Custom House, the dock was originally built in 1821 as a working maritime dock and was named for George IV of the United Kingdom. The Inner Dock (previously Revenue Dock), was constructed a few years later in 1824 following the death of John Rennie the Elder and was completed by his son, John Rennie the Younger. Along with the old Custom House Dock, designed by James Gandon in 1796, the three docks and the various warehouses formed what was later known as the Custom House Docks. The Old Dock was infilled in 1927 with many of the store buildings and the swing bridge across the inlet removed to make way for an extension of Amiens Street and Beresford Place through to Custom House Quay, thus creating a new stretch of road now known as Memorial Road. Luas
Luas (, Irish language, Irish: ; meaning 'speed') is a tram system in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. There are two main lines: the Green Line (Luas), Green Line, which began operating on 30 June 2004, and the Red Line (Luas), Red Line which opened on 26 September 2004. Since then, the red line has been extended and split into different branches further out of the city and the green line has been extended north and south as a single line. Since the northern extension of the green line in 2017, the two lines intersect in the city centre. Docklands Station (''Stáisiún Dugthailte'', also known as ''Ceantar na nDugaí'') is a terminus railway station serving the Dublin Docklands area in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The Dublin Area Rapid Transit system (stylised as DART) is an electrified commuter rail railway network serving the coastline and city of Dublin, Ireland. The service makes up the core of Dublin's suburban railway network, stretching from Greystones, County Wicklow, in the south to Howth and Malahide in north County Dublin. The DART serves 31 stations and consists of 53 route kilometres of electrified railway ( double track, single), and carries in the region of 20 million passengers per year. The Point Village is a commercial and residential development in the North Wall area of Dublin, Ireland. The elements of the €800 million development completed to date include offices and residential and hotel accommodation, a small shopping centre, a cinema, a museum and a five-level underground car park. Dublin Landings is a commercial and residential development in the Docklands Strategic Development Zone and within the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) along the Dublin quays, Ireland. The Docklands Strategic Development Zone (SDZ) (known officially as the ''North Lotts and Grand Canal Dock SDZ Planning Scheme'') is a controversial strategic planning area in Dublin, Ireland located east of the city centre on both sides of the River Liffey in the North Wall and Grand Canal Dock areas. On 18 December 2012, the Government of Ireland via the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Phil Hogan designated the area an SDZ pursuant to its powers under the Planning and Development Act 2000.
