North-East Region, Singapore
The North-East Region (, zh, 東北區) of Singapore is one of the five Regions of Singapore, regions in the country. The region is the most densely populated and has the highest population among the five, with Sengkang being its most populous town as of 2020 and Seletar as the regional centre. Comprising 13,810 hectares, it includes seven Planning Areas of Singapore, planning areas and is largely a Residential area, residential region with 217,120 homes. Housing largely consists of high-density Housing and Development Board, HDB Public housing in Singapore, public housing estates, however private housing is also present in the region. As its name implies, it is located in the north-eastern part of Singapore. Regions Of Singapore
The regions of Singapore are urban planning subdivisions demarcated by the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore to aid in its planning efforts. Over time, other governmental organisations have also adopted the five regions in their administrative work, as for example the Department of Statistics in the census of 2000. The regions are further subdivided into 55 planning areas, which include two water-catchment areas. The largest region in terms of area is the West Region with , while the Central Region is the most populous with an estimated population of 922,980 inhabitants in the area in 2019. Desmond Choo Pey Ching (; born 13 February 1978) is a Singaporean politician and former police officer who has been serving as Assistant Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) since 2015 and Ministry of Defence (Singapore), Minister of State for Defence since 2025. Pulau Ubin
Pulau Ubin (), also simply known as Ubin, is an island situated in the north east of Singapore, to the west of Pulau Tekong. The granite quarry used to be supported by a few thousand settlers on Pulau Ubin in the 1960s, but only about 40 villagers remained as of 2012. It is one of the last rural areas to be found in Singapore, with an abundance of natural flora and fauna. The island forms part of the Ubin–Khatib Important Bird Area (IBA), identified as such by BirdLife International because it supports significant numbers of visiting and resident birds, some of which are threatened. Today, the island is managed by the National Parks Board, compared to 12 agencies managing different areas of the island previously. Urbanization (or urbanisation in British English) is the population shift from Rural area, rural to urban areas, the corresponding decrease in the proportion of people living in rural areas, and the ways in which societies adapt to this change. Public housing in Singapore is subsidised, built, and managed by the government of Singapore.
