Chantelle Newbery
Chantelle Lee Newbery (née Michell) (born 6 May 1977) is an Australian former diver. She won a gold medal in diving at the 2004 Summer Olympics and in 2006 became the 22nd athlete to be named in the Australian Institute of Sport Awards' "Best of the Best". Career Born in Melbourne, Newbury's first international success was at the 1998 World Aquatics Championships in Perth, Australia, where she won a bronze medal in the 3m springboard event. Later that year Newbery became Commonwealth champion by winning the gold medal in the 1m springboard event at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She won a silver medal two days later in the 3m springboard. At the 2000 Olympic Games Newbery finished fourth in the synchronised 3m springboard event. David Newbery
David Michael Garrood Newbery, CBE, FBA (born 1 June 1943), is a British economist who has been Professor of Applied Economics at the University of Cambridge since 1988. He specialises in the field of energy economics, and he writes on the regulation of electricity markets. His interests also include climate change mitigation and environmental policy, privatisation, and risk. Early life Newbery was born on 1 June 1943 at Fulmer Chase, Fulmer, Buckinghamshire. He studied at Portsmouth Grammar School from 1954 till 1961, where he won Best Science Candidate in Cambridge GCE A&S Level. He read Mathematics and Economics at Trinity College, Cambridge, obtaining a B.A. in 1964, M.A. (Cantab.) in 1968 and a Ph.D. degree in 1976. Eduardo Newbery
Eduardo Federico Newbery (February 17, 1878 in Buenos Aires – October 17, 1908 in Río de la Plata) was an Argentine odontologist and aerostat pilot. Family life Eduardo Newbery was of American descent. His father, Ralph Lamartine Newbery Purcell, emigrated from Long Island, New York, and settled in Argentina after the American Civil War, in which he fought on the Union side in the Battle of Gettysburg and was recognized for his courage. Eduardo was one of aviation pioneer Jorge Newbery's siblings (the others were Ernesto Purcell, Elena Rosa, Rodolfo León and María de los Dolores (twins), Elvira Teresa, Emma Catalina, Carlos Alfredo, Luis Alfredo, Juan Alberto Martín and Ana Eva). James Newbery
James Cosmo Newbery (28 June 1843 – 1 May 1895), generally referred to as Cosmo Newbery or J. Cosmo Newbery, was a United States-educated Australian museum administrator and industrial chemist, and co-developer of the Newbery-Vautin chlorination process for gold extraction. Newbery was the fourth son of William Boxer Newbery, born near Livorno, Grand Duchy of Tuscany. When quite young he emigrated to the United States of America, and ultimately graduated as Bachelor of Science at Harvard University. After leaving Harvard, Newbery studied at the Royal School of Mines, Jermyn Street, London, and in 1865 was appointed analyst to the Geological Survey of Victoria—an appointment which he held until 1868, when the department was abolished. John Newbery
John Newbery (9 July 1713 – 22 December 1767), considered "The Father of Children's Literature", was an English publisher of books who first made children's literature a sustainable and profitable part of the literary market. He also supported and published the works of Christopher Smart, Oliver Goldsmith and Samuel Johnson. In recognition of his achievements the Newbery Medal was named after him in 1922. Early life Newbery was born in 1713 to Robert Newbery, a farmer, in Waltham St Lawrence, Berkshire, England, and an unknown mother. When he was younger he gave himself an education. He was apprenticed to a local printer, William Ayers, at the age of sixteen. The business was later sold to William Carnan.
