The New York Cosmos (simply the Cosmos in 1977–1978) were an American professional association football, soccer club based in New York City and its suburbs. The team played home games in three stadiums around New York, including Yankee Stadium (1923), Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, before moving in 1977 to Giants Stadium in nearby East Rutherford, New Jersey, where the club remained for the rest of its history. New York Cosmos (2010)
The New York Cosmos is an American professional soccer club based in Uniondale, New York, that most recently played in the third-tier league National Independent Soccer Association (NISA). The organization, established in August 2010, is a rebirth of the original New York Cosmos (1970–1985) that played in the previous North American Soccer League, which was at the time the first division of North American soccer. The club previously competed in the second-division North American Soccer League (NASL). With the NASL, the team won the Soccer Bowl Trophy in 2013, 2015, and 2016. They have been on hiatus since January 2021, citing the COVID-19 pandemic, though all the other teams in the league continued to play. In less than five full seasons of play before going on hiatus, the Cosmos garnered a legacy of success on the field, poor attendance in the stands, and mismanagement, lawsuits, and unpaid bills off the field. New York Cosmos B
New York Cosmos B were an American soccer team based in the New York metropolitan area that played in the National Premier Soccer League, the fourth tier of the United States soccer league system, as the reserve team of New York Cosmos. History The club was announced on January 15, 2015. On February 10, 2015, Alecko Eskandarian, assistant coach for the senior squad, was named head coach of Cosmos B. In the club's inaugural season, Cosmos B did not lose a game. On August 8, Cosmos B capped the undefeated season by defeating Chattanooga FC 3-2 at Finley Stadium to win the NPSL national championship. Following the successful season, then-Cosmos Chief Operating Officer Erik Stover stated that while the team was eligible for the U.S. Open Cup, since a new tournament rule at the time only barred professional teams that were majority owned by a higher-level professional league teams from taking part in the competition and not amateur ones, it would not take part and explained that " ...
