Montélimar (; Vivaro-Alpine dialect, Vivaro-Alpine: ''Montelaimar'' ; ) is a town in the Drôme Departments of France, department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regions of France, region in Southeastern France. It is the second-largest town in the department after Valence, Drôme, Valence. In 2018, the commune had a population of 39,415; its urban unit, urban area had a population of 57,372. History The site where the city of Montélimar stands today has been inhabited since the Celtic era. It was reconstructed during the Roman Empire, Roman reign, including a basilica, Roman aqueduct, aqueducts, thermae and a Forum (Roman), forum. The Adhémar family reigned over the city in the Middle Ages and built a castle (Château des Adhémar) which dominates the city silhouette even today. Émile Loubet
Émile François Loubet (; 30 December 183820 December 1929) was the 45th Prime Minister of France from February to December 1892 and later President of France from 1899 to 1906. Trained in law, he became Mayor (France), mayor of Montélimar, where he was noted as a forceful orator. He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1876 and the Senate in 1885. He was appointed as a Republican minister under Carnot and Ribot. He was briefly Prime Minister of France in 1892. As President, he saw the successful Exposition Universelle (1900), Paris Exhibition of 1900, and the forging of the Entente Cordiale with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, resolving their sharp differences over the Boer War and the Dreyfus Affair. Château Des Adhémar
The Château des Adhémar is a castle, later converted to a Renaissance style château, in the French town of Montélimar in the Drôme département. It is located on a hill in the centre of the town. History Its origins are found in the 11th century when the first castle was built by the Count of Toulouse, the Duke of Narbonne. Little of this remains. In the second half of the 12th century it became the property of the Adhémar de Monteil family, lords of Rochemaure, later lords of Grignan, then at the height of their power. The palace they built substantially exists today. In the 14th century, it was taken by the papacy, joining the Pope's castles until 1447, when Montélimar was returned to the kingdom of France. The site of many armed conflicts, especially during the Wars of Religion, the castle suffered much damage and was transformed into a citadel, then back to a pleasant residence with the return of more peaceful times. Louis Henri Deschamps was a French painter born on 25 May 1846 in Montélimar, ( Drome); died 8 August 1902 in Montélimar. Biography He was born on 25 May 1846 from Sebastien Deschamps and Hanriette Chames and gifted with natural artistic talent, after an initial training at the local school, he was educated, first, at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Lyon under Michel Dumas (painter) and and in 1872 he entered the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris, where he was a student of Alexandre Cabanel. He exhibited his paintings at the Salon (Paris) from 1872 to 1889, then at the Salon of the National Society of Fine Arts from 1890 to 1900, as well as in the Salons of the Society of Friends of the Arts of Bordeaux. Michèle Rivasi (9 February 1953 – 29 November 2023) was a French politician who served as a member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 2009 until her death in 2023, for Europe Écologie–The Greens.
