Meduza
''Meduza'' (Russian: Медуза, named after the Greek goddess Medusa) is a Russian- and English-language independent news website, headquartered in Riga, Latvia. It was founded in 2014 by a group of former employees of the then-independent '' Lenta.ru'' news website. Free mobile applications for iOS, Windows Phone, and Android became the basis of the media. A semi-official motto of the portal is "Make the Kremlin sad". History In 2014, Galina Timchenko was fired from her job as chief editor at ''Lenta.ru'' by oligarch Alexander Mamut, a supporter of Vladimir Putin, after she had interviewed Right Sector leader Dmytro Yarosh. Ivan Sergeyevich Kolpakov (; born December 17, 1983) is a Russian journalist, writer, one of the founders of the ''Sol'' () newspaper, editor-in-chief of the ''Meduza'' newspaper from 2016 to 2018 and since March 2019. Biography Ivan Kolpakov was born in 1983 in Perm, Russia. In 2005 he graduated from the Faculty of History and Politics of Perm State University (PSU). Early life and education Timchenko was born in Moscow on 8 May 1962. She graduated from the 3rd Moscow Medical Institute. From 1997 to 1999, she worked as an editor at the ''Kommersant'' newspaper.
