Mana (Oceanian Cultures)
In Melanesian and Polynesian cultures, ''mana'' is a supernatural force that permeates the universe. Anyone or anything can have ''mana''. They believed it to be a cultivation or possession of energy and power, rather than being a source of power. It is an intentional force. ''Mana'' has been discussed mostly in relation to cultures of Polynesia, but also of Melanesia, notably the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. In the 19th century, scholars compared ''mana'' to similar concepts such as the '' orenda'' of the Iroquois Indians and theorized that ''mana'' was a universal phenomenon that explained the origin of religions. Etymology The reconstructed Proto-Oceanic word *mana is thought to have referred to "powerful forces of nature such as thunder and storm winds" rather than supernatural power. Mana railway station on the Kapiti Line section of the North Island Main Trunk Railway (NIMT) in the locality of ''Mana'' in the Paremata suburb of the city of Porirua, New Zealand is part of Wellington's Metlink suburban rail network. It is double tracked with a platform each side and a subway between them. Mana, New Zealand
Mana is a locality of Porirua City in New Zealand, part of the Suburb of Paremata. It is a narrow isthmus bounded to the west by the entrance to Porirua Harbour, and to the east by the Pauatahanui inlet of the Porirua Harbour. Mana Island lies about three kilometres west of the isthmus. State Highway 59 and the North Island Main Trunk railway both pass through the centre of Mana; the state highway route was previously part of State Highway 1 until SH 1 was shifted to the Transmission Gully Motorway on 7 December 2021. A significant increase in the traffic capacity through Mana occurred in 2005-2006 when a second bridge on the state highway route was added at the southern end, transit lanes were introduced and several sets of traffic lights were added as part of the Plimmerton to Paremata upgrade. Mana, French Guiana
Mana (; ) is a commune and town in French Guiana. It was founded on 16 August 1828 by Sister Anne-Marie Javouhey. It borders the river Mana, from where it gets its name; and is nearby the river Maroni. Mana is the primary producer of rice in French Guiana, which it exports to Suriname. On 31 December 1988, about 3% of the territory of Mana was detached and became the commune of Awala-Yalimapo. Awala-Yalimapo is inhabited by Galibi Amerindians. History The first settlement of people from Jura failed in alcoholism and disease. In 1828, the Ministry of the Navy and Colonies sent Sister Anne-Marie Javouhey to colonize the area. Javouhey set out to build a viable community based on agriculture and invited black traders to settle, which was not the white colony as the Ministry envisioned. Mana (anciently which Named as "Ma'anna /Maanna") is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Jimma Zone, Mana is bordered on the south by Seka Chekorsa, on the west by Gomma, on the north by Limmu Kosa, and on the east by Kersa. The administrative center of this woreda is Yebu. The landscape of Mana includes mountains, high forests and plain divided by valleys. Mountains include Weshi and Bebella. Rivers include Aniso, Doha, Wanja, Yebu and Sogibo. Rabbi Mana II (Recorded in the Talmud as R. Mani) was an '' Amora'' of the Land of Israel, of the fifth generation of the Amora era. Mohammed Mana (born 7 October 1950) was military Administrator of Plateau State between December 1993 and August 1996 during the military regime of General Sani Abacha. He was elected Senator for Adamawa North in 2007 on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform. Background Mana was born on 7 October 1950. He attended the Government College, Keffi.
