Man or Astro-man? is an American surf rock group that was formed in Auburn, Alabama in the early 1990s and came to prominence over the following decade. Primarily instrumental rock, instrumental, "Man or Astro-man?" blended the surf rock style of the early 1960s, like that of Dick Dale and The Spotnicks with the new wave music, new wave and punk rock sounds of the late 1970s and early 1980s. ''Is It?'' is the fifth studio album by the English singer-songwriter Ben Howard, released on 16 June 2023 via Island Records. Background and recording The album was created before and after Howard suffered two transient ischaemic attacks in 2022. The strokes, which affected his memory and speech, influenced Howard's songwriting on the album. Created with DJ-producer Nathan Jenkins (aka Bullion), the album features a distinctly electronic leaning. Glitches and loops populate the mix alongside "radiant" guitar ripples. Theremins
The theremin (; originally known as the ætherphone, etherphone, thereminophone or termenvox/thereminvox) is an electronic musical instrument controlled without physical contact by the performer (who is known as a thereminist). It is named after its inventor, Leon Theremin, who patented the device in 1928. The instrument's controlling section usually consists of two metal antennas which function not as radio antennas but rather as position sensors. Each antenna forms one half of a capacitor with each of the thereminist's hands as the other half of the capacitor. These antennas capacitively sense the relative position of the hands and control oscillators for frequency with one hand, and amplitude (volume) with the other. The electric signals from the theremin are amplified and sent to a loudspeaker. The sound of the instrument is often associated with eerie situations. The Spotnicks
The Spotnicks were an instrumental rock band (music), group from Sweden that formed in 1961. They were known for wearing "space suit" costumes on stage (theatre), stage and for their innovative electronic guitar sound. They released 43 albums. History The Spotnicks originated from a duo, "The Rebels" (1956), formed by Bo Starander (11 March 1942 – 3 May 2020; rhythm guitar, vocals), and Björn Thelin (27 June 1942 – 24 January 2017; bass guitar). They were joined by lead guitarist Bo Winberg (27 March 1939, Gothenburg, Sweden – 3 January 2020), and became "Rock-Teddy and the Blue Caps" in 1957 in Gothenburg.
