Discurria Insessa
''Discurria insessa'', commonly named the seaweed limpet, is a species of sea snail, a true limpet, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Lottiidae. Description The size of the shell varies between 10 mm and 38 mm. The apex of the shell is located at the highest point of the shell and slightly forward at the center. The shape of the ''Discurria insessa'' are nearly oval or can be elongated with the right and left margins of the shell nearly parallel to the distance. The height of the limpet is about 3/4 width. The exterior of the shell is dark brown and usually smooth. Distribution This marine species occurs from South Alaska to the Baja California Peninsula. The geograpichal range of ''Disccuria inessa'' is Wranglell Island, Alaska, to Bahía Magdalena, Baja California Sur. ''Disccuria inessa'' was abundant in North California but rare north in Oregon. Ecology ''Discurria insessa'' is believed to live only on '' Egregia menziesii'' (feather boa kelp). Young l ...

Patellogastropoda
The Patellogastropoda, common name true limpets and historically called the Docoglossa, are members of a major phylogenetic group of marine (ocean), marine gastropods, treated by experts either as a clade or as a taxonomic Order (biology), order. The clade Patellogastropoda is deemed monophyletic based on phylogenetic analysis. Taxonomy Patellogastropoda was proposed by David R. Lindberg, 1986, as an order, and was later included in the subclass Eogastropoda Ponder & Lindberg, 1996. 2005 taxonomy Taxonomy of the Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005), Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005 designated Patellogastropoda, true limpets, as a clade, rather than as a taxon, but within included superfamilies and families as listed below. Families that are exclusively fossil are indicated with a dagger †: * Superfamily Patelloidea ** Family Patellidae * Superfamily Nacelloidea ** Family Nacellidae * Superfamily Lottioidea ** Family Lottiidae ** Family Acmaeidae Forbes, 1850 *** subfamily Acmaeinae For ...

Tectura Palacea
''Tectura palacea'', common names the surfgrass limpet or chaffy limpet, also spelled chaffey limpet, is a species of small sea snail, a true limpet, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Lottiidae. The shell of this small limpet is about 6–10 mm in length and 2–3 mm in width. The shell dimensions are narrow to correspond with the limpet's habitat: the narrow blades of surfgrasses in the genus '' Phyllospadix'', found at low tide levels. This species occurs in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, on the coast of North America, from Vancouver Island, British Columbia to northern Baja California, Mexico Mexico, officially the United Mexican States, is a country in North America. It is the northernmost country in Latin America, and borders the United States to the north, and Guatemala and Belize to the southeast; while having maritime boundar ....McLean J. H. Its genome has beesequencedat the Joint Genome Institute. Distribution The owl limpet is found on the Pacific coast of North America from northern California to southern Baja California. Description The owl limpet grows to a length of up to nine centimetres. The often much eroded gastropod shell, shell has an elongated low cone shape with the apex (mollusc), apex close to one end. The anterior slope is concave. The general colour is brownish grey with pale markings and the foot is pale grey with a yellow or orange sole. There is also a small form that lives on the shells of mussels. It is even more elongated, up to twenty-five millimetres long, and dark blue with concentric growth rings. ''Lottia gigantea'' present a muscular orange foot. Round the edge of the foot the owl limpet has a distinctive Man ...

Lottia Pelta
''Lottia pelta'', common name the shield limpet, is a species of sea snail, a true limpet, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Lottiidae. It is still designated under its synonym ''Collisella pelta'' (Eschscholtz, 1833) in many textbooks. Distribution The shield limpet is found in the intertidal zone on rocks and kelp holdfast from Alaska to Baja California. The largest specimens occur in the northern part of the range. Description This shell of this species grows to a width of between 2.5 and 5.4 cm on a broadly elliptical to oval base. It is only moderately elevated. The apex is tilted toward the front end and the sides of the shell are slightly convex. The color of the shell is grayish with irregular, radial stripes. When ''Lottia pelta'' moves among substrata the morphology and the color of its shell changes. The ontogenetic record of its past habitats is preserved in the shell structure. The species found on kelp holdfasts have darker shells with obscure ribbin ...
