''Coronation Street'' (colloquially referred to as ''Corrie'') is a British television soap opera created by ITV Granada, Granada Television and shown on ITV (TV network), ITV since 9 December 1960. The programme centres on a cobbled, terraced street in the fictional town of Weatherfield in Greater Manchester. The location was itself based on Salford, the hometown of the show's first screenwriter and creator, Tony Warren. Originally broadcast twice weekly, ''Coronation Street'' increased its runtime in later years, currently airing three 60-minute episodes per week. Warren developed the concept for the series, which was initially rejected by Granada's founder Sidney Bernstein, Baron Bernstein, Sidney Bernstein. Producer Harry Elton convinced Bernstein to commission 13 pilot episodes. Michael Le Vell
Michael Robert Turner (born 15 December 1964), known professionally as Michael Le Vell, is an English actor. He is best known for his role as mechanic Kevin Webster in the long-running ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'', a role he has played since 1983. Early life Le Vell was born in Newton Heath, Manchester. When he was fifteen, his mother died from a brain tumour, and when he was 22, his father died of lung cancer. He has a brother, Phil and two sisters. Career Le Vell began his acting career in the Oldham Theatre Workshop after taking an interest in amateur dramatics while at school. He had a guest role as paperboy Neil Grimshaw in ''Coronation Street''. He then went on to appear in the BBC shows '' Fame is the Spur'' and '' One by One''. Le Vell later attended an audition at Granada Studios for the series '' Scully'', where he met casting director Judy Hayfield. The following is a list of characters that first appeared in the ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'' in 1995, by order of first appearance. Daniel Osbourne Daniel Osbourne is the son of established character Ken Barlow ( William Roache) and Denise Osbourne ( Denise Black). Daniel was originally portrayed by Lewis Harney from his birth in 1995 until he left with his mother in 1997. Upon his return in 2007, the character was portrayed by Dominic Holmes. The character was recast in 2016, with Rob Mallard taking over the role. Daniel was first introduced after being born on 4 January 1995 to Ken Barlow and Denise Osbourne. Daniel appears again in May 2007 when he agreed to meet his father. At the time, Daniel's interests included heavy metal and football.
