Liga Națională (men's Handball)
The Romanian Handball League, commonly known as Liga Națională or more recently as Liga Zimbrilor, is the men's top Romanian professional handball league. The league comprises fourteen teams. History This sport was first played in Romania in 1920. After a visit in Germany, a few physical education teachers introduced this sport in their classes. The ''Liga Națională'' was founded in 1933 (in 11 players) and in 1958 in the current format with 7 players. The most successful team in history is Steaua București with 28 titles. HC Buzău
Handbal Club Buzău, commonly known as HC Buzău, is a men's handball team from Buzău, Romania. The club was founded in 2012 and was promoted for the first time in its history to the Liga Națională at the end of the 2017–18 Divizia A season. Nicknamed "The Buzău Wolves", the team plays its home matches at the Sala Sporturilor "Romeo Iamandi" in Buzău, a sports hall with a capacity of 1,868 spectators. After their promotion, HC Buzău spent several seasons fighting to avoid relegation and consolidate their place in the top division. At the end of the 2024–25 season, the club achieved its best-ever finish in the Liga Națională, securing 3rd place and qualifying for European competitions for the first time in its history. CS Minaur Baia Mare (men's Handball)
Club Sportiv Minaur Baia Mare, commonly known as Minaur Baia Mare or simply Minaur, is a Romanian handball team based in Baia Mare, Maramureș County. History The team was founded on 15 May 1974 as Handball Club Minaur Baia Mare, becoming the first sports club in the country to specialize exclusively in handball. Its name, meaning 'Gold Mine,' refers to the gold mines around Baia Mare. From the very beginning, Minaur has played exclusively in the first division of the Romanian handball championship. In the early years, they wore golden jerseys. Minaur won its first Romanian Handball Cup in the 1977–78 season. In 1978–79, they reached the semi-finals of the EHF Cup Winners' Cup undefeated, with two victories, before being eliminated by SC Magdeburg. Clubul Sportiv Municipal Bacău, commonly known as CSM Bacău, is a team handball, men's handball team from Bacău, Romania. The club was founded in 1962 as ''Dinamo Bacău'' and was also known for a period as ''Știința Municipal Dedeman Bacău'', due to sponsorship reasons. The club's best performances are three 2nd places in the Liga Națională, in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and two 3rd places in 1968 and 1980. Vaslui (), a city in eastern Romania, is the seat of Vaslui County, in the historical region of Western Moldavia. Odorheiu Secuiesc (; , ; ) is the second largest municipality in Harghita County, Transylvania, Romania. In its short form, it is also known as ''Odorhei'' in Romanian and ''Udvarhely'' in Hungarian.
