Lidköping
Lidköping () is a locality and the seat of Lidköping Municipality in Västra Götaland County, Sweden. It had about 40,000 inhabitants in 2021. It is situated on the southern shore of Lake Vänern and sometimes refers to itself as "Lidköping vid Vänern", to distinguish itself from Linköping near Sweden's east coast. Attempts have been made to change the official name to "Lidköping vid Vänern" but these attempts have not been successful. Geography The town of Lidköping is divided by the Lidan River, flowing through the central city. The eastern side of it is called the old town, and the western side is known as the new town. Lidköping Municipality () is a municipality in Västra Götaland County in western Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Lidköping. Lidköping sometimes refers to itself as "Lidköping by Vänern", possibly to distinguish itself from the namewise (and historically) similar city of Linköping in eastern Sweden. Villa Lidköping BK
Villa Lidköping BK is a bandy club in Lidköping i Sweden. The club was formed on 18 January 1934 as Villa BK on Lockörn outside Lidköping, where the old club cottage still is. The club's name comes from the nearby country estate Villa Giacomina. Villa has played in the Swedish championship finals seven times, losing 4 out of the 7 appearances in the years 1975, 1983, 2012 and 2016 before finally winning in 2019 and again in 2021, followed up by a third victory in 2024 and a fifth in 2025. Home games are played in Sparbanken Lidköping Arena. In October 2018, the club won its first World Cup title. The women's team won the Swedish national championship for first time during the 2020–2021 season and again during the 2021–2022, 2022–2023 and 2023–2024 seasons. Sparbanken Lidköping Arena
Sparbanken Lidköping Arena is an indoor arena in Lidköping, Sweden. It is the home arena for the bandy team, Villa Lidköping BK. The normal capacity of the arena is 4,500 for bandy games and 12,500 for concerts, and the arena was opened on December 25, 2009. The 2025 Women's Bandy World Championship and Division A of the 2025 Bandy World Championship, 2025 Men's Bandy World Championship were played here. The attendance record for a bandy game is 5,400 on December 2, 2016 when Villa Lidköping BK played vs district rivals IFK Vänersborg. Elitserien (bandy)
The Elitserien (literally, the "Elite League") () is since the 2007–08 season the highest bandy league in Sweden. It consists of 14 teams. The season ends with one final game in March. The final was held at Studenternas IP in Uppsala from 1991 until 2012. In 2013 and 2014 the final was played at Friends Arena in Solna Municipality, Solna, and from 2015 to 2017 it was played at the Tele2 Arena. The final returned to 4,600-capacity Studenternas IP indoor stadium in 2018. Season structure During the regular season the fourteen teams play each other team at home and away - a total of 26 games per team. The top six teams directly qualify for the playoffs for the league championship, while the teams ranked from 7th to 10th enter an additional play-off to decide which teams take the other two championship play-off places. Mary Anderson (labor Leader)
Mary Anderson (August 27, 1872 – 1964) was a Swedish-born American labor activist and an advocate for women in the workplace. A feminist, she rallied support to ratify many new laws to support women and equal rights. Throughout her lifetime, Anderson held a large range of roles, rising from a factory worker to the Director of the Women's Bureau in the United States Department of Labor. Gunnar Wennerberg
Gunnar Wennerberg (2 October 1817 – 24 August 1901) was a Swedish poet, composer and politician. Biography Wennerberg was the son of the vicar of the town of Lidköping in Västergötland, went to ''gymnasium (school), gymnasium'' in the cathedral town of Skara, and matriculated as a student at Uppsala University in 1837, where he studied natural sciences, Classical philology, Philosophy and Aesthetics. He received his filosofie magister degree in 1845 and became a docent of Aesthetics in 1846. Wennerberg was remarkable in several ways, handsome in face and tall in figure, with a finely trained singing voice, and brilliant in wit and conversation. Vänern
Vänern ( , , ) is the largest lake in Sweden, the largest lake in the European Union and the third-largest lake in Europe after Ladoga and Onega in Russia. It is located in the provinces of Västergötland, Dalsland, and Värmland in the southwest of the country. With its surface located at above sea level and a maximum depth of , the lowest point of the Vänern basin is below sea level. The average depth is a more modest , which means that the lake floor is above sea level on average.
