Lethbridge
Lethbridge ( ) is a city in the province of Alberta, Canada. With a population of 106,550 in the 2023 Alberta municipal censuses, 2023 municipal census, Lethbridge became the fourth Alberta city to surpass 100,000 people. The nearby Canadian Rockies, Canadian Rocky Mountains contribute to the city's warm summers, mild winters, and Chinook wind, windy climate. Lethbridge lies approximately southeast of Calgary on the Oldman River and northwest of the Canada–United States border at the Sweetgrass–Coutts Border Crossing. Lethbridge is the commercial, educational, financial, industrial and transportation centre of southern Alberta. The city's economy developed from drift mining for coal in the late 19th century and agriculture in the early 20th century. Lethbridge County
Lethbridge County is a municipal district in southern Alberta, Canada. It is in Census Division No. 2 and part of the Lethbridge census agglomeration. It was known as the ''County of Lethbridge'' prior to December 4, 2013. Its name was changed in time for 2014 to coincide with its 50th anniversary. Rachael Thomas
Rachael Thomas (née Harder) (born 1986) is a Canadian politician who was elected to represent the riding of Lethbridge in the House of Commons of Canada in the 2015 federal election. A member of the Conservative Party, she was reelected in the 2019 and 2021 federal elections, and has been the Shadow Minister for Canadian Heritage since October 2022. Blaine E. Hyggen is a Canadian politician. He currently serves as the mayor of Lethbridge, Alberta. Early life and education Hyggen is the son of Lola "Dodie" and Larry Hyggen, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hyggen was educated at Lethbridge Community College where he took Business Law and Accounting. He is the owner of Copy Express. Downtown Lethbridge is the central business district of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, hosting most of the city's banks and several accounting and law practices, including national firms. Boundaries Strictly speaking, the downtown is defined by the Oldman River valley on the west, Crowsnest Trail and the CPR rail line on the north, Stafford Drive (9 Street) on the east and 6 Avenue on the south. Nathan Neudorf
Nathan Neudorf is a Canadian politician who has been Alberta's minister of affordability and utilities since 2023. He was elected in the 2019 Alberta general election to represent the electoral district of Lethbridge-East in the 30th Alberta Legislature. Robert Seiko Miyashiro is a Canadian politician who was elected Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Lethbridge-West in 2024. A member of the Alberta New Democratic Party. He previously served as a member of the Lethbridge City Council from 2013 to 2021. ''Lethbridge Sun Times'' is a weekly paper in the Lethbridge, Alberta, area, with a circulation of 24,000 in 2007. The paper is part of Alta Newspaper Group, the same company that publishes and distributes the daily ''Lethbridge Herald''. History In 1985, Vic Palychuk, Joe Myndio and Ted Stilson started a company called Demographics Inc. This company ran the monthly ''Buy and Sell'' newspaper, a publication focusing on classified advertising and available at a small number of locations. The paper was a direct competitor to ''The Shopper'', another weekly classifieds paper. In short time, the ''Buy and Sell'' expanded into a 24-page weekly paper and delivered to every home in Lethbridge. William Lethbridge
William Lethbridge (1825–1901) was a lawyer in England. When bookseller W H Smith owner William Henry Smith II decided to become involved in politics in 1864, he enlisted Lethbridge as a managing partner. He sat for a portrait by Frederick Sandys (1829-1904) in 1882 (see illustration). Lethbridge was the first president of North Western Coal and Navigation Company, a mining company based out of Lethbridge, Alberta, in 1882. The Coat of arms of Lethbridge is an official symbol of the city of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. It was designed by Reverend John Stanley Chivers and adopted on September 16, 1907.
