Lea County, New Mexico
Lea County (, ) is a county located in the U.S. state of New Mexico. As of the 2020 census, its population was 74,455. Its county seat is Lovington. It is both west and north of the Texas state line. Lea County comprises the Hobbs, NM micropolitan statistical area. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which are land and (0.07%) are covered by water. Lea County is located in the southeast corner of New Mexico and borders Texas to the south and east. The Permian Basin, wide and long, underlies Lea County and adjacent Eddy County, as well as a large portion of West Texas. It produces 500,000 barrels of crude a day, and this number was expected to double in 2019. The shale in this basin lies below the surface, below a salt bed and a groundwater aquifer. Yoakum County, Texas
Yoakum County is a county located in the far western portion of the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 7,694. Its county seat is Plains. The county was created in 1876 and later organized in 1907. It is named for Henderson King Yoakum, a Texas historian. Until the passage of a liquor sales referendum held on May 11, 2013, Yoakum had been one of 19 remaining prohibition or entirely dry counties within Texas. Voters in Denver City also approved a separate referendum to permit liquor sales within that community. In 1965, Recorded Texas Historic Landmark number 5927 was placed at the county courthouse, acknowledging the creation of the county in 1876. Until after 1900, the county contained primarily nomadic buffalo hunters and a few scattered ranchers. Lea County Regional Airport (Lea County-Hobbs Airport) is four miles (6.4 km) west of Hobbs, in Lea County, New Mexico, United States. The airport covers and has three runways. It is an FAA certified commercial airport served by United Airlines' affiliate with daily regional flights. Lea County Regional Airport is the largest of the three airports owned and operated by Lea County Government. Lea County also owns and operates two general aviation airports in Lovington and Jal, New Mexico.
