Lasioideae
Lasioideae is a subfamily of flowering plants in the family (biology), family Araceae. It contains ten living genera: ''Anaphyllopsis'', ''Anaphyllum'', ''Cyrtosperma'', ''Dracontioides'', ''Dracontium'', ''Lasia'', ''Lasimorpha'', ''Podolasia'', ''Pycnospatha'', and ''Urospatha''. The subfamily also includes the extinct genus ''Keratospema'' described from Ypresian fossils recovered at the Eocene Okanagan Highlands Princeton Chert site. References

Princeton Chert
The Princeton Chert is a fossil locality in British Columbia, Canada, which comprises an anatomically preserved flora of Eocene Epoch age, with rich species abundance and diversity. It is located in exposures of the Allenby Formation on the east bank of the Similkameen River, south of the town of Princeton, British Columbia. History The Princeton Chert (Ashnola shale in older sources) and its fossils have been known since the 1950s, but have attracted increased attention in the late 1970 and on. This may be due to the rare type of silica permineralized fossil Lagerstätten found, which has preserved plants and animals in minute 3D detail, with exceptional internal cellular detail. This has meant anatomical descriptions and reconstruction of whole plants from isolated parts has been possible in many species. Few plant fossils elsewhere in the world exhibit such excellence in both preservation and diversity. Similar aged fossil beds in Eocene lake sediments are found elsewhere in ...

Lasia
''Lasia'' is a genus of flowering plants in the family Araceae, native to Asia and New Guinea. The genus contains only two known species, '' Lasia spinosa'' and '' Lasia concinna''. ''Lasia'' was believed to be a monotypic genus until 1997 when a wild population of ''Lasia concinna'' was discovered in a farmer's paddy field in West Kalimantan, Indonesia. The farmer had been growing them for their edible young leaves. This species of ''Lasia'' had been known of previously only from a single specimen at the Bogor Botanic Gardens, formally described in 1920. Prior to 1997, the specimen was believed to have been a hybrid between '' Lasia spinosa'' and ''Cyrtosperma merkusii ''Cyrtosperma merkusii'' or giant swamp taro, is a crop grown throughout Oceania and into South and Southeast Asia. It is a riverine and "swamp crop" similar to taro, but "with bigger leaves and larger, coarser roots." There are no demonstrably ...''. The subsequent discovery by Hambali and Sizemore led to t ...

Araceae
The Araceae are a family of monocotyledonous flowering plants in which flowers are borne on a type of inflorescence called a spadix. The spadix is usually accompanied by, and sometimes partially enclosed in, a spathe (or leaf-like bract). Also known as the arum family, members are often colloquially known as aroids. This family of 114 genera and about 3,750 known species is most diverse in the New World tropics, although also distributed in the Old World tropics and northern temperate regions. Description Within the Araceae, species are often rhizomatous or tuberous; many are epiphytic, creeping lianas or vining plants, and the leaves and tissues of the entire plant nearly always contains irritating calcium oxalate crystals or raphides, in varying degrees. The foliage can vary considerably from species to species. The majority of species produce an inflorescence consisting of a spadix (which some compare to a corn cob, in appearance), which is nearly always surrounded ...

Podolasia
''Podolasia'' is a monotypic genus of flowering plants in the family Araceae. The single known species in the genus is ''Podolasia stipitata''. It is native to Borneo, Sumatra, and Peninsular Malaysia. ''Podolasia stipitata'' has vegetative features that are similar to the genus ''Lasia'' and has floral features similar to the genus '' Cyrtosperma''. It has leathery leaves that can vary from being hastate to sagittate (arrow-shaped). The inflorescence is white when first produced but begin to turn purple from the top down as male anthesis Anthesis is the period during which a flower is fully open and functional. It may also refer to the onset of that period. The onset of anthesis is spectacular in some species. In ''Banksia'' species, for example, anthesis involves the extension ... begins. Urospatha
''Urospatha'' is a genus of flowering plants in the family Araceae that consists of 11 known species. They are found growing in South America and Central America in swamps, wet savannahs, and brackish water. The leaves of the species in this genus are upward pointing and sagittate (arrow-shaped). The inflorescences are quite unique; the spathe is mottled and elongated with a spiral twist at the end. The seeds are distributed by water and have a texture similar to cork "Cork" or "CORK" may refer to: Materials * Cork (material), an impermeable buoyant plant product ** Stopper (plug), or "cork", a cylindrical or conical object used to seal a container *** Wine cork an item to seal or reseal wine Places Ireland * ... that allows them to float.
