Klingons
The Klingons ( ; Klingon language, Klingon: ''tlhIngan'' ) are a humanoid species of aliens in the science fiction franchise ''Star Trek''. Developed by screenwriter Gene L. Coon in 1967 for the Star Trek: The Original Series, original ''Star Trek'' (''TOS'') series, Klingons were humanoids characterized by prideful ruthlessness and brutality. Hailing from their homeworld ''Qo'noS'' (pronounced approximately as /kho-nosh/, but usually rendered as /kronos/ in English), Klingons practiced feudalism and authoritarianism, with a warrior caste relying on slave labor and reminiscent of Ancient Sparta. With a greatly expanded budget for makeup and effects, the Klingons were completely redesigned for ''Star Trek: The Motion Picture'' (1979), acquiring ridged foreheads. Dominion (Star Trek)
The Dominion War is an extended plot concept developed in several story arcs of '' Star Trek: Deep Space Nine'', an American science-fiction television series produced by Paramount Pictures. In the fictional ''Star Trek'' universe, the Dominion War is a conflict between the forces of the Dominion, the Cardassian Union, and, eventually, the Breen Confederacy against the Alpha Quadrant alliance of the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire and, later, the Romulan Star Empire. The war takes place in the final two seasons of the series, but has been gradually built up to over the course of the five preceding seasons. Errand Of Mercy
"Errand of Mercy" is the twenty-sixth episode of the first season of the American science fiction television series ''Star Trek''. Written by Gene L. Coon and directed by John Newland, it was first broadcast on March 23, 1967. It was the first episode in which the Klingons appeared. In the episode, with a war with the Klingons declared, Captain Kirk and his First Officer, Mr. Spock, attempt to sway the incomprehensibly placid population of a planet near the Klingon border to resist an invading military occupation. The Klingon governor, Kor (played by John Colicos), would return in the '' Star Trek: The Animated Series'' episode " The Time Trap" voiced by James Doohan. Klingon Language
The Klingon language (, ''Klingon scripts, '': , ) is the constructed language spoken by a fictional alien race called the Klingons in the ''Star Trek'' universe. Described in the 1985 book ''The Klingon Dictionary'' by Marc Okrand and deliberately designed to sound "alien", it has a number of Linguistic typology, typologically uncommon features. The language's basic sound, along with a few words, was devised by actor James Doohan ("Montgomery Scott, Scotty") and producer Jon Povill for ''Star Trek: The Motion Picture''. The film marked the first time the language had been heard. In all previous appearances, Klingons spoke in English, even to each other. Romulan
The Romulans () are an extraterrestrial race in the American science fiction franchise ''Star Trek''. Their adopted home world is Romulus, and within the same star system they have settled a sister planet Remus. Their original home world, Vulcan, was renamed Ni'Var later in canon. ''The Klingon Way: A Warrior's Guide'' (Klingon language, Klingon: ''tlhIngan tIgh: SuvwI' DevmeH paq'') is a 1996 book by the linguist Marc Okrand that was published by Pocket Books. ''The Klingon Way'' is a collection of proverbs and sayings in the constructed language of Klingon, ascribed to the Klingon race and Klingon culture in the fictional ''Star Trek'' universe. Okrand first began constructing the Klingon language in the 1980s when he was hired to produce Klingon dialogue for ''Star Trek III: The Search for Spock'', going on to publish ''The Klingon Dictionary''. ''The Klingon Way'' expanded the Klingon lexicon, and was followed by ''Klingon for the Galactic Traveler''. Gene Roddenberry
Eugene Wesley Roddenberry Sr. (August 19, 1921 – October 24, 1991) was an American television screenwriter and producer who created the science fiction series and fictional universe ''Star Trek.'' Born in El Paso, Texas, Roddenberry grew up in Los Angeles, where his father was a police officer. Roddenberry flew 89 combat missions in the United States Army Air Forces, Army Air Forces during World War II and worked as a commercial pilot after the war. Later, he joined the Los Angeles Police Department and began to write for television. Marc Okrand
Marc Okrand (; born July 3, 1948) is an American linguist. His professional work is in Native American languages, and he is well known as the creator of the Klingon language in the ''Star Trek'' science fiction franchise. Career As a linguist, Okrand worked with Native American languages. He earned a bachelor's degree in linguistics from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1970. His 1977 doctoral dissertation from the University of California, Berkeley, was on the grammar of Mutsun, an extinct Ohlone language formerly spoken in the coastal areas of north-central California. His dissertation was supervised by pioneering linguist Mary Haas. The Original Series
''Star Trek'' is an American science fiction television series created by Gene Roddenberry that follows the adventures of the starship and its crew. It acquired the retronym of ''Star Trek: The Original Series'' (''TOS'' to distinguish the show within the media franchise that it began. The show is set in the Milky Way galaxy, 2266–2269.
