Kenton, Delaware
Kenton is a town in Kent County, Delaware, United States. It is part of the Dover metropolitan statistical area. The population was 215 in 2020. History The Village of Kenton is a crossroads community located at the intersection of Route 42 and Route 300 in Kenton Hundred, Delaware. The village dates from the last decade of the 18th century, but did not achieve its peak until the last half of the 19th century when the Delaware and Maryland Railroad line was put through from Clayton to Maryland. and Kenton was first laid out in 1796 by Philip Lewis who had begun to acquire property in the area five years before in 1791. The community was first known as Georgetown, then as Lewis Crossroads and finally, in 1806, by the name of Kenton. The Kenton Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Aspendale (Kenton)
Aspendale is a historic house and plantation property on Delaware Route 300 west of Kenton, Kent County, Delaware, United States. The main house, built 1771–73, has been under a single family's ownership since construction and is a rare, well-preserved example of a Georgian "Quaker plan" house. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1970. and Description and history Aspendale is located about west of Kenton, on the north side of Delaware Route 300. The property is over in size, consisting of fields and woodlands roughly bisected by the road. The main house is set near the road, surrounded by landscaping. Kenton Post Office
The Kenton Post Office is a historic post office building on Maine Street in Kenton, Delaware. It is a two-story Italianate building that was built in 1881 by Francis Greenwell. It was leased out by Greenwell as a store, with a residence above, until the early 20th century when the post office took over the space. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Boundary Description The building is located on the west side of Main Street, south of Commerce Street in the town of Kenton. It is known as parcel No. 33 on Kenton Hundred tax map 44.08.01.
