Kamloops
Kamloops ( ) is a city in south-central British Columbia, Canada, at the confluence of the North Thompson River, North and South Thompson Rivers, which join to become the Thompson River in Kamloops, and east of Kamloops Lake. The city is the administrative centre for, and largest city in, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, a region of the British Columbia Interior. The city was incorporated in 1893 with about 500 residents. The Canadian Pacific Railway was completed through downtown in 1886, and the Canadian National Railway, Canadian National arrived in 1912, making Kamloops an important transportation hub. Kamloops North station is the first stop on VIA Rail's eastbound transcontinental service, ''The Canadian'', while the Rocky Mountaineer and the Kamloops Heritage Railway both use Kamloops station. Peter Gordon Milobar (born February 13, 1970) is a Canadians, Canadian politician serving as an MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia) from Kamloops, Kamloops since 2017. Representing the riding of Kamloops Centre, Kamloops-Centre, he is a member of the Conservative Party of British Columbia. Thompson Rivers University (commonly referred to as TRU) is a Public university, public research university located in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. West End, Kamloops
The West End (Shuswap language: Tk'emlul̓pe) is an inner-city, South Shore neighbourhood of Kamloops, British Columbia in Canada. It is the city's oldest residential neighbourhood and has the largest proportion of Heritage conservation in Canada, heritage-designated buildings, including Kamloops' oldest public building, St. Andrew's on the Square (1887). In addition, the city's first school, Stuart Wood School, is located in the West End, as are the Kamloops Museum and Archives, St. Ann's Academy (Kamloops), St. Ann's Academy, the Kamloops Cenotaph at Memorial Hill Park, and the Kamloops Chinese Cemetery. Reid Hamer-Jackson
Reid Allan Hamer-Jackson (born October 27, 1958) is a Canadian politician. He has served as mayor of Kamloops, British Columbia since 2022. His tenure as mayor has been marred by controversy regarding his relationship with city council and staff. Early life Hamer-Jackson was born at the North Vancouver General Hospital in North Vancouver, the son of Maurice "Hamer" ( Chasney) and Diana Hamer-Jackson ( King). Hamer-Jackson first moved to Kamloops in 1973, where he attended Brocklehurst Middle School. His father kicked him out of the home, a move which Hamer-Jackson later claimed did him a favour. Kamloops Heritage Railway
The Kamloops Heritage Railway is a heritage railway in Kamloops, British Columbia. The railway used to operate throughout the year running trains within Kamloops. The train was pulled by restored steam locomotive Canadian National Railway #2141, the "Spirit of Kamloops". The museum is currently on temporary static display. #2141 was built in 1912 by the Canadian Locomotive Company, in Kingston, Ontario - built for the Canadian Northern Railway, prior to it being absorbed into the Canadian National Railway. The locomotive is a 2-8-0, 'Consolidation' class of steam locomotive built for branchline use as well as drag freights . Originally a coal burner, the locomotive was converted to burn oil in 1954, and retired from active duty in 1958. #2141 was sold to the City of Kamloops in 1961, and placed on display in Riverside Park until restoration work began in 1995. Kamloops Lake
Kamloops Lake in British Columbia, Canada is situated on the Thompson River just west of Kamloops. The lake is 1.6 km wide, 29 km long, and up to 152 m deep. In prehistoric time, the lake was much longer, perhaps 20x, with adjacent silt cliffs defining ancient lake bottoms 100 meters higher than present water levels. At the outlet near Savona, a large tumbled rock, gravel moraine indicates the toe of a glacier once melted away here. Thompson River
The Thompson River is the largest tributary of the Fraser River, flowing through the south-central portion of British Columbia, Canada. The Thompson River has two main branches, the South Thompson River and the North Thompson River. The river is home to several varieties of Pacific salmon and trout. The area's geological history was heavily influenced by glaciation, and the several large glacial lakes have filled the river valley over the last 12,000 years. Archaeological evidence shows human habitation in the watershed dating back at least 8,300 years. Thompson-Nicola Regional District
The Thompson–Nicola Regional District is a regional district in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The Canada 2021 Census population was 143,680 and the area covers 44,449.49 square kilometres. The administrative offices are in the main population centre of Kamloops, which accounts for 78 percent of the regional district's population. The only other city is Merritt; other municipally-incorporated communities include the District Municipalities of Logan Lake, Barriere and Clearwater and the Villages of Chase, Ashcroft, Cache Creek, Clinton and Lytton, and also the Mountain Resort Municipality of Sun Peaks.
