Junglinster () is a commune and town in central Luxembourg, in the canton of Grevenmacher. The 18th-century St Martin's church is a national monument. History The oldest mention of ''Lincera'' (the "linster" part of the place name) is in documents going back to 983, with the status of parish first attested in 1128. Population , the town of Junglinster has a population of 3,697, whilst the wider commune of Junglinster has a population of 8,622. Figures from 2018 report that 64.11% of the population of the commune holds Luxembourgish nationality, with the five largest immigrant populations in the commune being those of Portuguese (7.77%), French (5.12%), German (3.88%), Belgian (3.27%) and British (1.91%) nationalities. Junglinster Longwave Transmitter
The Junglinster Longwave Transmitter is a longwave broadcasting facility used by RTL near Junglinster, Luxembourg, which went into service in 1932. Its aerial consists of three free-standing steel-framework towers, which are ground fed radiators. These towers formed a directional aerial for the frequency 234 kHz and until 1980 were 250 metres high. Since 1980 their height has been 215 metres. Junglinster longwave transmitter was at time of inauguration one of the most powerful transmitters in the world. It was discovered that its signal can under some conditions show cross modulation with other radio stations by ionospheric reflection. This phenomenon was named " Luxembourg effect" after the circumstance that it was first detected at the signal of this transmitter in Luxembourg. Beidweiler Longwave Transmitter
The Beidweiler longwave transmitter is a high-power broadcasting transmission site owned by RTL Group and operated by RTL company Broadcasting Center Europe. It was used to transmit the French-speaking programme of RTL on longwave frequency until 1 January 2023. Based in Beidweiler, Luxembourg, the transmission site is situated at 49°43'58" N and 6°19'08" E and went into service in 1972 as replacement of the old Junglinster Longwave Transmitter. Junglinster remained in use as a backup site and for additional broadcast services. Construction The facility uses a directional antenna consisting of three tall guyed masts, each equipped with a cage antenna. The output of this array is mostly directed toward Paris. When the site was inaugurated in 1972 it operated with a transmission power of 1400 kilowatts, which was pushed up to 2000 kW in 1974, making it one of the most powerful broadcasting stations in the world at the time. Rodenbourg (, ) is a village in the commune of Junglinster, in central Luxembourg. , the village has a population of 227 inhabitants. Rodenbourg gave its name to a commune in the canton of Grevenmacher until 1 January 1979, when it was merged into the commune of Junglinster. Grevenmacher () is a canton in the east of Luxembourg. The canton's name derives from Grevenmacher, a commune with town status. St Martin's Church, Junglinster
St Martin's church is an 18th-century listed building and Catholic parish church in Junglinster, Grevenmacher (Luxembourg). It contains artworks and monuments from the older parish church that the building replaced. The oldest monuments commemorate members of the noble d'Orley family, to whom the Renaissance artist Bernard van Orley was related.Alex Langini, ''L'Église Saint-Martin: Un chef-d'oeuvre baroque'' (undated booklet) History The parish has existed since medieval times, but by 1688 the original church was in a state of disrepair, and litigation about who was responsible for upkeep delayed renovation. In January 1744, Johannes Otto Borrigs became parish priest. In the 1750s Borrigs laid out a walled garden around the presbytery, and in 1762 had a new presbytery built in the style of a manor house.
