Iran–Turkmenistan Border
The Iran–Turkmenistan border is the Border, national border separating the countries of Iran and Turkmenistan. It is 1,148 km (713 miles) in length and runs from the Caspian Sea to the tripoint with Afghanistan. The Turkmen capital Ashgabat is only 15 miles north of this boundary, and Mashhad (Iran's second largest city) is 47 miles south of it. Description The border starts at the Caspian coast just to the south of the Turkmen town of Esenguly. It then goes overland in an eastwards directions in a series of straight lines through barren salt flats for 50 km (31 mi) until reaching the Atrek river, the course of which it follows for 124 km (77 mi) to a point just south of the Turkmen village of Chat. Gorgan
Gorgan (; ) is a city in the Central District (Gorgan County), Central District of Gorgan County, Golestan province, Golestan province, Iran, serving as capital of the province, the county, and the district. Sarakhs
Sarakhs () is a city in the Central District (Sarakhs County), Central District of Sarakhs County, Razavi Khorasan province, Razavi Khorasan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district. Dargaz () is a city in the Central District of Dargaz County, Razavi Khorasan Province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district. History For the period before the advent of the Safavids (r. 1501–1722), the historic city of Abivard was one of the educational centers of Islamic and Arabic scholarship in eastern Iran. The Emirate of Bukhara (, ) was a Muslims, Muslim-Uzbeks, Uzbek polity in Central Asia that existed from 1785 to 1920 in what is now Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
