Inca, Spain
Inca () is a town on the Spain, Spanish island of Mallorca. The population of the Municipalities of Spain, municipality is 32,137 (2018) in an area of 58.4 km2. There is a junction railway station, station on Mallorca rail network, Mallorca's rail network with trains to Palma de Mallorca, Palma, the island's capital, to Sa Pobla, and to Manacor. Inca is home of the footwear company "Camper (company), Camper". Inca was known for its wine cellars. The town, like its neighboring municipality Binissalem, was a mass producer of wine from the 17th to 19th centuries when phylloxera destroyed the industry and its inhabitants turned to other activities such as tanning and leather craftsmanship. Inca is a town of 30,000 inhabitants located at the center of the island of Mallorca in the Spanish province of Islas Baleares. Creation A Jewish population is known to have existed on Inca since Jaume I conquered Mallorca in 1229, although their presence had already been reported by Severus, bishop of Menorca, in the 5th century. The origin of the Jewish quarter (named call' in Catalan) dates from a 1346 order issued by king Peter IV of Aragon upon request from the Governor of Mallorca, Gilabert de Centelles, because of disturbances caused by the mostly Christian inhabitants of Inca, who were displeased with the widespread presence of Jews in the town. Tombet
Tombet or tumbet is a traditional vegetable dish from Majorca, consisting of layers of sliced potatoes, aubergines and red bell peppers previously fried in olive oil. It is available at almost every local restaurant on the island. Tombet is often served along with fish or meat, but on its own it makes a good vegetarian dish. Preparation The aubergines and red peppers should not be peeled. The whole is topped with tomato fried with garlic and parsley and presented in a way that it looks like a pie without a crust. Tombet is the Majorcan version of the Occitan '' ratatouille'' or the Catalan ''samfaina''. Influenced by those dishes, nowadays some people add zucchini to the mixture, but this is a vegetable that is not present in the original dish. Grape phylloxera is an insect pest of grapevines worldwide, originally native to eastern North America.
