Hylodes
''Hylodes'' is a genus of frogs in the family Hylodidae. The genus may be paraphyletic with respect to '' Megaelosia''. The genus ''Hylodes'' is endemic to southeastern Brazil. Member species are also known commonly as the tree toads, or more ambiguously, as torrent frogs. They are diurnal and usually inhabit shallow mountain streams. Species The following species A species () is often defined as the largest group of organisms in which any two individuals of the appropriate sexes or mating types can produce fertile offspring, typically by sexual reproduction. Hylodes Asper
''Hylodes asper'', the warty tree toad or Brazilian torrent frog, is a species of frogs in the family Hylodidae. It is Endemism, endemic to the Rio de Janeiro (state), Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo (state), São Paulo states in southeastern Brazil. Living in a high-noise environment, the species uses "semaphore, semaphoring" to supplement acoustic signalling. Behaviour ''Hylodes asper'' are Diurnality, diurnal. Males use both visual and acoustic signalling to attract females and to maintain their territories. "Foot-flagging" is the most distinctive visual display, usually performed while calling. In foot-flagging, the raises one hind limb and extends it up and back, exposing the silvery colour of the dorsal surfaces of toes and toe fringes. Male ''Hylodes asper'' have been observed to construct an underwater chamber, apparently for use as a nest for reproduction. Habitat and conservation This frog has been observed as high as 800 meters above sea level. The species' natural habi ...

Hylodes Dactylocinus
''Hylodes dactylocinus'' is a species of frog in the family Hylodidae. It is endemic to Serra do Itatins, in the São Paulo state, southeastern Brazil. Description Adult males measure and females in snout–vent length. Behaviour ''Hylodes dactylocinus'' are diurnal sit-and-wait predators, using emerged logs and rocks as their standing points. Males are territorial and use both visual and acoustic signalling to attract females and to maintain their territories. Male ''Hylodes dactylocinus'' construct an underwater chamber. This is used for (presumably) amplexus and oviposition. The male closes the chamber after the oviposition; there is no further parental care. Habitat and conservation The species' natural habitats are small streams in primary Primary or primaries may refer to: Arts, entertainment, and media Music Groups and labels * Primary (band), from Australia * Primary (musician), hip hop musician and record producer from South Korea * Primary Music, Israeli rec ...

Hylodes Caete
''Hylodes caete'' is a species of frogs in the family Hylodidae. It is endemic to Serra do Mar, in the State of São Paulo, southeastern Brazil. Etymology The specific name ''caete'' is derived from two Tupi words, ''caa'' and ''ete'', meaning "true forests". Description Adult males measure in snout–vent length. It is the fourth member of the genus to found nuptial tubercles Nuptial tubercles or breeding tubercles (also called pearl organs or nuptial efflorescence) are noticeable skin roughness or horny nodules that form on male fish during breeding. Hylodidae
Hylodidae, commonly known as giant Neotropical torrent frogs, is a Family (biology), family of frogs native to Brazil and northern Argentina. Phylogenetic evidence suggests the Hylodidae being the sister group to the Alsodidae. ''Megaelosia, Megaelosia goeldii'' is one species that lost the ability to produce vocalizations which in turn is denoted as mute. Through observation of aggressive interactions, it was found that the species' vocal sacs are used for one form of its visual signaling and communication. Diversity The family contains 48 species in four genera: * ''Crossodactylus'' André Marie Constant Duméril, A.M.C. Duméril & Gabriel Bibron, Bibron, 1841 (13 species) * ''Hylodes'' Leopold Fitzinger, Fitzinger, 1826 (26 species) * ''Megaelosia'' Alípio de Miranda-Ribeiro, Miranda-Ribeiro, 1923 (one species) * ''Phantasmarana'' Vittorazzi, Augusto-Alves, Neves-da-Silva, species:Ana Maria Paulino Telles de Carvalho e Silva, Carvalho-e-Silva, species:Shirlei Maria Recco-Pi ...

Megaelosia
''Megaelosia goeldii'', also known as the Rio big-tooth frog, is a species of frog in the family Hylodidae. It is the only member of the genus ''Megaelosia.'' It is endemic to Southeast Brazil and occurs in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro states. It is named after Émil Goeldi, a Swiss zoologist who worked in Brazil. Taxonomy The genus ''Megaelosia'' formerly contained several other species, but all of these were reclassified in a new genus, '' Phantasmarana'', in 2021 based on a phylogenetic study, leaving ''M. goeldii'' as the only remaining member of ''Megaelosia''. Description Males measure and females in snout–vent length (based on 2 males and 3 females only). The dorsolateral skin is granular. The snout is subacuminate in dorsal view and protruding in profile. The canthus rostralis is evident and straight. Males have neither vocal sacs nor vocal slits. Frog
A frog is any member of a diverse and largely semiaquatic group of short-bodied, tailless amphibian vertebrates composing the order (biology), order Anura (coming from the Ancient Greek , literally 'without tail'). Frog species with rough skin texture due to wart-like parotoid glands tend to be called toads, but the distinction between frogs and toads is informal and purely cosmetic, not from taxonomy (biology), taxonomy or evolutionary history. Frogs are widely distributed, ranging from the tropics to subarctic regions, but the greatest concentration of species diversity is in tropical rainforest and associated wetlands. They account for around 88% of extant amphibian species, and are one of the five most diverse vertebrate orders. The oldest fossil "proto-frog" ''Triadobatrachus'' is known from the Early Triassic of Madagascar (250Myr, million years ago), but molecular clock, molecular clock dating suggests their divergent evolution, divergence from other amphibians may exte ...

Lorenz Müller
Lorenz Müller (18 February 1868 in Mainz – 1 February 1953 in Munich) was a German herpetologist. Professor Lorenz Müller was known for his studies on the Balearic Islands species of the genus ''Podarcis'' (wall lizards) during the 1920s, in which he described several new subspecies, including the now extinct Ratas Island lizard, ''Podarcis lilfordi rodriquezi''. Together with his colleague Professor Robert Mertens he made several studies about European amphibians and reptiles. Lorenz Müller died at 84 from a bronchitis Bronchitis is inflammation of the bronchi (large and medium-sized airways) in the lungs that causes coughing. Bronchitis usually begins as an infection in the nose, ears, throat, or sinuses. The infection then makes its way down to the bronchi. ....
