Janet Hesketh
Janet May Hesketh (nee Janet May Mackenzie, 23 Dec 1934 – 29 Aug 2018) was a New Zealand women's leader. In 1988 she was awarded the Queen's Service Medal, and in 1996 she was appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the National Council of Women (NCWNZ). Early life and education Hesketh was born on 23 December 1934 in Hamilton, to Lilian May Harris and electrical engineer Eric Bruce Mackenzie. She attended primary school in Nelson, and then attended Wellington East Girls' College after the family moved to Wellington in 1946. Hesketh graduated from Victoria University of Wellington in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science in geography. Hesketh worked as a geography demonstrator and began studying for a master's degree. She also taught at Otago Girls' High School for a year. Hesketh did not finish her masters degree, passing her work on to others to finish when she had her first child. Sir Thomas Hesketh of Whitehill (1548–15 October 1605) was an English lawyer and politician. Born the second son of Gabriel Hesketh of Aughton and Jane Halsall, Hesketh was educated at Hart Hall, Oxford, and the University of Cambridge, before entering Grays Inn in 1572. As most of his official appointments appear to have been in Lancashire, it is assumed that he practiced law in the courts of the duchy of Lancaster. He was a Member (MP) of the Parliament of England for Preston in 1586 and 1589, Lancaster in 1597 and 1604, and Lancashire in 1601. Hesketh was knighted in 1603. Philip John Hesketh (born 15 November 1964) is an Anglican clergyman. Since June 2016, Dr Hesketh serves as the Dean of Rochester, head of the Chapter of Rochester Cathedral and the most senior priest in the diocese of Rochester. Early life and education Born in 1964 at Southport, Lancashire, the son of Ronald Hesketh, a kinsman of the Hesketh-Fleetwood baronets, and Jacquline ''née'' Matthew, he was brought up on the Isle of Man, and educated at St Ninian's High School, Douglas.
