Heathcote, New South Wales
Heathcote is a suburb of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The suburb is located 36 km south of the Sydney central business district in the Sutherland Shire of Southern Sydney. Heathcote is bordered by Engadine, New South Wales, Engadine to the north and Waterfall, New South Wales, Waterfall to the south. Thomas Mitchell (explorer)
Sir Thomas Livingstone Mitchell (15 June 1792 – 5 October 1855), often called Major Mitchell, was a Scottish Surveyor (surveying), surveyor and European land exploration of Australia, explorer of Southeastern Australia. He was born in Scotland and served in the British Army during the Peninsular War. In 1827 he took up an appointment as Assistant Surveyor General of New South Wales. The following year he became Surveyor General of New South Wales, Surveyor General and remained in this position until his death. Mitchell was knighted in 1839 for his contribution to the surveying of Australia. Early life Thomas Livingstone Mitchell was born at Grangemouth in Stirlingshire, Scotland on 15 June 1792. Scouts Australia is a trading name of The Scout Association of Australia, which is the largest scouting organisation in Australia, with over 50,000 Youth Program Participants, and is a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement. George Augustine Taylor
George Augustine Taylor (1 August 1872 – 20 January 1928) was an Australian artist, journalist, and inventor. Life Taylor was born at Sydney in 1872. He began his working life articled to an architect, a Mr Hobbs. However, he first became known as an artist, and was a member of the Sydney Bohemian set in the 1890s, whose doings he was afterwards to record in his ''Those Were the Days'', a volume of reminiscences published in 1918. He contributed drawings to ''The Bulletin (Australian periodical), The Bulletin'', ''Worker'', ''Sunday Times'', ''Referee'', and ''London Punch'', but later became interested in aviation and radio, and did some remarkable work in connection with them. George Adams (businessman)
George Adams (14 March 1839 – 23 September 1904) was an Australian publican and lottery promoter best known as the founder of Tattersall's Limited, Tattersall's. Life Adams was born in Redhill in the parish of Sandon, Hertfordshire, England. He was the fourth son of William Adams, farm labourer, and his wife Martha, née Gilbey. The family emigrated to Australia and arrived on 28 May 1855. Adams started as a gold mining, gold miner in Kanoona, Queensland before working on sheep stations in New South Wales and setting up a stock dealer and butcher in Goulburn. In 1875, he swapped the trade of meat to the trade of liquor and purchased the licence to the Steam Packet Hotel in Kiama, New South Wales, Kiama on the New South Wales south coast.
