Haut-Lomami
Haut-Lomami (French for "Upper Lomami") is one of the 21 provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo created in the Subdivisions of the DR Congo#New provinces, 2015 repartitioning. Haut-Lomami, Haut-Katanga, Lualaba Province, Lualaba, and Tanganyika Province, Tanganyika provinces are the result of the dismemberment of the former Katanga Province, Katanga province. Haut-Lomami was formed from the Haut-Lomami district whose town of Kamina was elevated to capital city of the new province. Kamina
Kamina is the capital city of Haut-Lomami Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Transport Kamina is known as an important railway node; three lines of the DRC railways run from Kamina toward the north, west, and south-east. The main railway line, the operating sections of the Cape to Cairo Railway, links the city with Tenke and Lubumbashi to the south and Kabalo and Kindu to the northeast. It has two airports, one civil ( Kamina Airport) and one military ( Kamina Base Airport). It lies along National Road 1 (N1) and Regional Road 630 (R630). Military The Belgian Armed Forces established a large military base in Kamina after the Second World War. The large base complex consisted of Base 1, an air base used for flying training, and Base 2, a paratroop training facility. Bukama Territory
Bukama is a territory in the Haut-Lomami province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The territory contains town of Bukama, as well as the eastern half of Upemba National Park. History In January 2024, a group of 40 Mai Mai Kata Katanga fighters stormed the police station in Bukama Territory's Luena village, raising the separatist Katangese flag and demanding the release of a militia member arrested at the location. However, the local policemen were able to easily repel the raid with some reinforcements. From 7 to 8 December 2024, 80 Mai Mai Kata Katanga militants raided the village of Kapando, Bukama Territory, where they killed two civilians and stole 500,000 Congolese francs. Katanga Province
Katanga was one of the four large provinces created in the Belgian Congo in 1914. It was one of the eleven provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo between 1966 and 2015, when it was split into the Tanganyika Province, Tanganyika, Haut-Lomami, Lualaba Province, Lualaba, and Haut-Katanga provinces. History Of Katanga
This is a history of Katanga Province and the former independent State of Katanga, as well as the history of the region prior to colonization. Earliest residents Prior to Bantu migration around 500 BCE, the area was probably the site of dwellings by much more widespread Khoisan and Pygmy hunter-gatherer peoples; the Katanga area is one of the few areas in the continent where concurrent settlements of both peoples have been identified. They were assimilated or driven out by the expansion of the Bantu peoples into the area. Luba settlement The earliest permanent settlements in the Katanga region are, supposedly, those of the Luba people's ancestors, who settled in the Upemba Depression near Lake Upemba. Subdivisions Of The DR Congo
The Third Republic of the Democratic Republic of the Congo is a unitary state with a five-level hierarchy of types of administrative division. There are nine different types of country subdivision in a new hierarchy with no new types but with two from the previous one abolished. Under the Third Republic, established in 2006, the number of provinces has gone from ten to twenty-five. By fits and starts the number of towns that have been, or are in the process of being, upgraded to cities has also increased greatly. Haut-Katanga
Haut-Katanga (French for "Upper Katanga") is one of the 21 provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo created in the 2015 repartitioning. Haut-Katanga, Haut-Lomami, Lualaba, and Tanganyika provinces are the result of the dismemberment of the former Katanga province. Haut-Katanga was formed from the Haut-Katanga district and the independently administered cities of Likasi and Lubumbashi. Lubumbashi retained its status as a provincial capital, and as of 2020, it had an estimated population of 5,718,800. The new province's territory corresponds to the historic Katanga-Oriental that existed in the early period after independence between 1963 and 1966. Along with Lualaba, Haut-Katanga is in the Copperbelt of Central Africa. The DRC is only behind Chile, Peru, and the PRC in largest amount of copper produced globally.
