The Gulf Stream is a warm and swift Atlantic ocean current that originates in the Gulf of Mexico and flows through the Straits of Florida and up the eastern coastline of the United States, then veers east near 36°N latitude (North Carolina) and moves toward Northwest Europe as the North Atlantic Current. The process of western intensification causes the Gulf Stream to be a northward-accelerating current off the east coast of North America. Around , it splits in two, with the northern stream, the North Atlantic Drift, crossing to Northern Europe and the southern stream, the Canary Current, recirculating off West Africa. The Gulf Stream influences the climate of the coastal areas of the East Coast of the United States from Florida to southeast Virginia (near 36°N latitude), and to a greater degree, the climate of Northwest Europe. Gulf Stream Hotel
The Gulf Stream Hotel is a historic hotel in Lake Worth Beach, Florida. It is located at 1 Lake Avenue, Lake Worth Beach, Florida in Palm Beach County. It was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1983. History Originally built in 1923 as El Nuevo Hotel, the hotel was renamed the Gulf Stream Hotel in 1924 and later became the Gulfstream Hotel. Located at 1 Lake Avenue in Lake Worth Beach, Florida, it was developed to accommodate the influx of visitors during the real estate boom. The project, led by G.H. Glover, William Nutter, and Frank Heywood, was backed by local banks and investors. Construction faced financial delays, but after a redesign by G. Lloyd Preacher & Company, the hotel opened on January 25, 1925, at a final cost exceeding $600,000. As banks failed across South Florida, the hotel struggled financially. Gulf Stream is a town in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population of the town was at 954 as of the 2020 US Census. ''The Gulf Stream'' is an 1899 oil painting by the American artist Winslow Homer. It shows a man in a small Dismasting, dismasted rudderless fishing boat struggling against the storm-tossed waves and perils of the sea, presumably near the Gulf Stream, and was the artist's statement on a theme that had interested him for more than a decade. During the time he explored this theme, Homer, a New Englander, boated often near Florida, Cuba, and the Caribbean.
