Gim Clan Of Andong
The Andong Kim clan () refers to two bon-gwan, Korean clans of Elder Andong Kim Clan (구 안동 김씨) and the New Andong Kim Clan (신 안동 김씨), respectively. They were prominent yangban, yangban families during Korea's Joseon, Joseon Dynasty originating from Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, North Gyeongsang province, during the Goryeo, Goryeo Dynasty. The clans produced many individuals who passed the ''gwageo examinations'', along with 3 Queen Consorts during the Joseon Dynasty: Queen Sunwon, Queen Hyohyeon, and Queen Cheorin. Both clans derive from the Gyeongju Kim clan. Type Andong Kim clan (Elder) The Elder Andong Kim clan (구 안동 김씨, 舊 安東 金氏) was founded during the Shilla Dynasty period by prince Kim Seuk-Seung (김숙승(金叔承) as the progenitor of the clan, who was the son of Gyeongsun of Silla, the last king of Shilla. Bon-gwan
Korean clans are groups of Koreans, Korean people that share the same Patrilineality, paternal ancestor. They are indicated by the combination of a ''bongwan'' () and a family name. Korean clans distinguish clans that happen to share the same family name. The ''bongwan'' identifies descent groups by Geography, geographic place of origin. For example, the Gyeongju Kim and the Gimhae Kim are considered different clans, even though they happen to share the same family name ''Kim (Korean name), Kim''. In this case, Gyeongju and Gimhae are the respective ''bongwan'' of these clans. However, a clan name is not treated as a part of a Korean person's name. The ''bongwan'' and the family name are passed on from a father to his children, thus ensuring that person in the same Paternal lineages, paternal lineage sharing the same combination of the ''bongwan'' and the family name.
