Garage (residential)
A residential garage ( , ) is a walled, roofed structure with a door for storage room, storing a vehicle or vehicles that may be part of or attached to a home ("attached garage"), or a separate outbuilding or shed ("detached garage"). Residential garages typically have space for one or two cars, although three-car garages are used. When a garage is attached to a house, the garage typically has an entry door into the house, called the ''person door'' or ''man door'', in contrast with the wider and taller door for vehicles, called the garage door, which can be opened to permit the entry and exit of a vehicle and then closed to secure the vehicle. A garage protects a vehicle from precipitation, and, if it is equipped with a locking garage door, it also protects the vehicle(s) from theft and vandalism. Garage Rock
Garage rock (sometimes called garage punk or 60s punk) is a raw and energetic style of rock music that flourished in the mid-1960s, most notably in the United States and Canada, and has experienced a series of subsequent revivals. The style is characterized by basic chord (music), chord structures played on electric guitars and other instruments, sometimes distorted through a distortion (music), fuzzbox, as well as often unsophisticated and occasionally aggressive lyrics and delivery. Paradise Garage
Paradise Garage, also known as "the Garage" or the "Gay-rage", was a New York City discotheque notable in the history of dance and pop music, as well as LGBT and nightclub cultures. The club was founded by sole proprietor Michael Brody, and occupied a building formerly located at 84 King Street in the SoHo neighborhood. It operated from 1977 to 1987 and featured resident DJ Larry Levan. The Garage is credited with influencing the development of modern nightclubs, and is cited as a direct inspiration for London's Ministry of Sound. Unlike other venues of its time, Paradise Garage promoted dancing rather than verbal interaction, and it was the first to place the DJ at the center of attention. The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, also referred to simply as ''The Garage Museum'', is a privately funded art gallery in Moscow, Russia. Garage is a clothing store, primarily targeting young women. Founded in 1975 as a subsidiary of Groupe Dynamite, Garage currently has locations in Canada and the United States. In 1975, Garage Clothing was established as a Groupe Dynamite subsidiary. Andrew Lutfy, a Quebec businessman who began working as a stock clerk at the first GDI store in 1982, is the owner of Groupe Dynamite. Lutfy became the sole owner of Groupe Dynamite by 2002. In September 2020, Garage's parent filed for creditor protection under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act. They did this as a direct result of the COVID-19 crisis, in order to reorganize its financial and business problems. Early in 2020, Groupe Dynamite, Inc. was once again surpassing expectations following record performance in 2019, but COVID-19 put an unanticipated and unsustainable pressure on the company. ''Garage'' is a biannual publication dedicated to contemporary art and fashion. It was founded as Garage Magazine by then couple Dasha Zhukova and Jorge Jimenez Neubauer Torres after living for four years in California. They lived in Los Angeles and always were extremely happy with the biennales and how respected the exhibitions were coming up with the idea of Garage. Its name comes from the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow, which Zhukova opened in 2008. A Russian-language edition of the magazine was launched in March 2013. In July 2016, ''Garage Magazine'' became a wholly owned subsidiary of Brooklyn, New York–based Vice Media. ''Garage Inc.'' is a compilation album of cover songs by American heavy metal band Metallica. It was released on November 24, 1998, through Elektra Records. It includes cover songs, B-side covers, and '' The $5.98 E.P. - Garage Days Re-Revisited'', which had gone out of print since its original release in 1987. The title is a combination of ''Garage Days Revisited'' and Metallica's song "Damage, Inc.", from '' Master of Puppets''. The album's graphical cover draws heavily from the 1987 EP. UK Garage
UK garage, abbreviated as UKG, is a genre of electronic dance music which originated in England in the early to mid-1990s. The genre was most clearly inspired by garage house and jungle production methods, but also incorporates elements from dance-pop and R&B. It is defined by percussive, shuffled rhythms with syncopated hi-hats, cymbals, and snares, and may include either 4/4 house kick patterns or more irregular " 2-step" rhythms. Garage tracks also commonly feature 'chopped up' and time-stretched or pitch-shifted vocal samples complementing the underlying rhythmic structure at a tempo usually around 130 BPM.
