Gaon (Hebrew)
Gaon (, ''gā'ōn'', , plural geonim, , ''gĕ'ōnīm'') was originally a formal title for the Geonim, heads of Talmudic academies in the 6th–11th century. Since the rishonic period, many great rabbis, whether or not they head academies, are often lauded with this honorific as a mark of respect; for example, one may refer to Ovadia Yosef as "HaGaon Ovadia Yosef". Modern Hebrew reuses the word as an equivalent for "genius" based on phonetic similarity. Etymology It may have originated as a shortened version of "Rosh Yeshivat Ge'on Ya'akov", although there are alternative explanations. ''Geonim'' (; ; also Romanization of Hebrew, transliterated Gaonim, singular Gaon) were the presidents of the two great Talmudic Academies in Babylonia, Babylonian Talmudic Academies of Sura Academy , Sura and Pumbedita Academy , Pumbedita, in the Abbasid Caliphate. They were generally accepted as the spiritual leaders of the Jewish community worldwide in the early medieval era, in contrast to the ''Resh Galuta'' (exilarch) who wielded secular authority over the Jews in Islamic lands. ''Geonim'' is the plural of (''Ga'on'') , which means "pride" or "splendor" in Biblical Hebrew and since the 19th century "genius" as in modern Hebrew language, Hebrew. As a title of a Babylonian college president it meant something like "His Excellency". The Circle Chart (), previously known as the Gaon Music Chart or the Gaon Chart (), tabulates the relative weekly popularity of songs and albums in South Korea. Founded in 2010, it is produced by the Korea Music Content Association and sponsored by South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. History Gaon Chart was launched in February 2010 by the Korea Music Content Association, under the sponsorship of the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, with the aim to create a domestic national chart similar to the ''Billboard'' charts of the United States and the Oricon charts of Japan. The word ''gaon'', which means 'middle' or 'center' in Korean, was chosen to represent fairness and reliability. The chart started tracking sales from the beginning of that year. Yehoram Gaon
Yehoram Gaon (; born December 28, 1939) is an Israeli singer, actor, director, comedian, producer, TV and radio host, and public figure. He has also written and edited books on Israeli culture. The son of Sephardic Jewish parents—a Bosnian father and Turkish mother, both immigrants to Israel—he became an early inspiration of "solidarity and pride" for the Sephardic community. Early life Gaon was born in the Beit Hakerem neighborhood of Jerusalem in 1939. His father, Moshe David Gaon, a historian, was born in Sarajevo, to a family of Sephardic Jewish descent in 1889, and immigrated to then British Mandate of Palestine (now Israel), where members of his family had lived for five generations. He was a school master and Hebrew teacher in Jerusalem, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and in İzmir, Turkey. Gaon's father was also a poet and a scholar of Ladino. The film is scheduled to release on October 26, 2018. Plot This film is inspired by director Gautam Singh Sigdar’s own village in Jharkhand, India. The film talks about the way the element of money impacts the society. It attempts to showcase the journey that India has gone through in the last 200 years in a nutshell. Gaon (), stylized as GAON, is a fine dining restaurant in Seoul, South Korea. , it is the only South Korean restaurant to receive three Michelin stars for seven years in a row, from when the Michelin Guide Seoul first began to be published in 2016. In 2023, it went on an indefinite hiatus. Description The restaurant first opened in 2003. It is operated by the Gaon Society, a dining subgroup of the Korean pottery brand Kwangjuyo Group (); the restaurant features pottery from the brand. The restaurant closed several years later, and reopened in January 2015. In late 2016, when the Michelin Guide Seoul first began to be published, the restaurant received three stars.
