G-Unit Records Artists
G-Unit Records is an American record label, owned by Universal Music Group. Founded in 2003 by rapper 50 Cent, the label was operated by Interscope Records until February 2014. Thereafter, distribution of G-Unit operated under Caroline Records and Capitol Music Group. The label had also launched the subsidiary label G-Note Records, which caters to R&B and pop. The label's flagship artist is its founder 50 Cent. History 2003–2005 Following 50 Cent's signing to Interscope Records in 2002, 50 Cent was granted his own label, G-Unit Records, a year later. G-Unit Records replaced 50 Cent's previous imprint, Rotten Apple Entertainment. G-Unit (short for Guerilla-Unit). was an American hip hop group formed by longtime friends and East Coast rappers 50 Cent, Tony Yayo, and Lloyd Banks. After amassing a string of self-released mixtapes in the early 2000s, the group released their debut album ''Beg for Mercy'' in 2003; the album went on to sell over two million copies in the US and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Mobb Deep was an American Hip-hop, hip hop duo formed in Queens, New York (state), New York in 1990. Curtis Williams (born January 19, 1976), more commonly known as Spider Loc, is an American rapper and actor. He was formerly signed to Interscope Records and 50 Cent's G-Unit Records. Biography Spider Loc was discovered by Suge Knight and tagged along with Death Row Records, he later appeared on the Death Row Records released soundtrack to the movie Dysfunktional Family soundtrack, and also was affiliated with Kurupt's Against Tha Grain record label under the name "Spider", but never signed an agreement. In September 2004 Spider Loc met rapper Young Buck in Atlanta and performed for him. A week later in Los Angeles, Young Buck introduced him to 50 Cent on the set of the "Shorty Wanna Ride" video and he performed a freestyle rap.
