Transperth A-series Train
The A-series trains are a class of electric multiple unit built by Walkers Limited in Maryborough, Queensland for Transperth Train Operations, Transperth between 1991 and 1999. When introduced in 1991, the A-series trains became the first electric passenger trains to operate in Western Australia and until 2004, were the only type of train in use on the Perth suburban rail network. Leighton Marshalling Yard
Leighton Marshalling Yard was a railway yard in North Fremantle, Western Australia adjacent to the Eastern Railway. History As part of plans to expand Fremantle Harbour, in 1954 the Government of Western Australia announced plans to build a new marshalling yard to replace a yard at Fremantle North Wharf. It opened in 1961 with a freight classification yard and terminal, two classification yards and 60 lever signal box. In 1966, the yard was converted to dual gauge as part of the conversion of the line from Kalgoorlie. In 1967 lighting towers were installed. In 1986, the American Broadcasting Company installed receiving and transmitting equipment to the top of the lighting towers for its 1987 America's Cup coverage. With altered traffic arrangements having resulted in dwindling traffic, work began in September 1988 to reduce the size of the yard. Cottesloe Railway Station
Cottesloe railway station is a railway station on the Transperth network. It is located on the Fremantle line, 12.4 kilometres from Perth station serving the suburbs of Cottesloe and Peppermint Grove. History Cottesloe station was originally established as Bullens Siding in 1884. Robert Napoleon Bullen was the proprietor of the Albion Hotel. The station was a request stop. Passengers could stop the train with a provided red flag in daylight or a candle in a jar at night. In June 1892 the station was renamed Cottesloe and became a regular stop for trains. The station closed on 1 September 1979 along with the rest of the Fremantle line, re-opening on 29 July 1983 when services were restored. York Railway Station, Western Australia
York railway station is a disused station on the Eastern Railway in Western Australia. It is located in the town of York. History The York station opened on 29 June 1885 as the interim terminus of the Eastern Railway when it was extended from Chidlow's Well. York became a junction station with a line opened south to Beverley on 5 August 1886 to connect with the Great Southern Railway from Albany. On 29 June 1885, Walkinshaw Cowan was invited to give a speech at the extension of the railway line to York. He said: The single fare from Perth to York was 5 shillings and the return fare was 7 shillings and sixpence. Clackline, Western Australia
Clackline is a locality in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, about east-north-east of Perth. History John Forrest, later Premier of Western Australia, recorded the name Clackline in 1879 but the origin of the word is unknown. A settlement was established in the 1880s, being at the junction of the Perth-Newcastle Road and the township was gazetted in 1896. It has also been known as Clackline Junction for the road and the rail junction. It was an important junction for the Eastern Railway lines to Northam, and Toodyay on the Clackline–Miling railway branch.
