NXE Australia Pty Ltd, trading as the Foxtel Group, is an Australian pay television company that operates cable television, direct-broadcast satellite, direct broadcast satellite television, and IPTV streaming services. It was formed in April 2018, superseding an earlier company from 1995. The service was established as a 50/50 joint venture between News Corp's News Corp Australia, Australian subsidiary (which held a controlling 65% stake) and Telstra (which held the remaining 35%). Since 2025, the company is owned by DAZN. It shares many features with the Sky UK, Sky service in the UK and Ireland – including the iQ box, the electronic program guide, electronic programme guide, a similar remote control, and Red Button Active. Austar
Austar was an Australian telecommunications company founded in 1995 as Community Entertainment Television (CETV). Its main business activity was subscription television. It was also involved with internet access and mobile phones. Austar's television subscriber base grew to 747,148 (on 30 June 2010), making it the largest subscription television operator in urban and rural Australia. Austar provided subscription television services to 2.4 million homes, a third of all homes in Australia, primarily using digital satellite technology. Fox Sports Australia Pty Limited (formerly Premier Media Group Pty Limited) is the division of Foxtel that owns and operates the Fox Sports television networks and digital properties in Australia. The group operates nine Fox Sports Channels as well as Fox Sports News, Fox Cricket, Fox League, Fox Footy, Watch AFL and Watch NRL. Hubbl, previously Streamotion, is an Australian over-the-top streaming subscription provider, wholly owned by Foxtel. The company has developed and operates the local streaming services Kayo Sports, Binge, Flash and Lifestyle, as well as operating the WatchAFL and WatchNRL services in international markets. In 2022, Foxtel announced their development of a television operating system known internally as ''Project Magneto'', based on the Sky Stream box available in the UK.
