Fersen Family
The Fersen family, stylized as the von Fersen (), is a Baltic nobility, Baltic-German noble family grouped into several Nobility, ennobled branches that settled in and around the kingdoms bordering the Baltic region, Baltic Sea in Northern Europe. The most well-known holders of the surname settled in modern day Sweden and Livonia (modern day Latvia and Estonia) which was once part of the Swedish Empire, and later of the Russian Empire. Overview The family was first mentioned in the historical region of Pomerania in the 13th century. The earliest records of the Fersen family in Livonia area in the late 17th century suggest possible links to earlier participation in the Northern Wars. Axel Von Fersen The Younger
Hans Axel von Fersen (; 4 September 175520 June 1810), known as Axel de Fersen in France, was a Swedish count, Marshal of the Realm of Sweden, a General of Horse in the royal Swedish Army, one of the Lords of the Realm, aide-de-camp to Rochambeau in the American Revolutionary War, diplomat and statesman, and an intimate friend of Queen Marie Antoinette of France. Von Fersen was lynched by a Stockholm mob, following rumors of his involvement in the death of Charles August, Crown Prince of Sweden. Hans William Von Fersen
Hans William Freiherr von Fersen (6 May 1937) was an admiral in the navy of the former Russian Empire. Biography Fersen was born into a Baltic German family in what is now Estonia. From his mother's side, he has Scottish ancestry, as his maternal great-grandfather is Friedrich von Stuart. Fersen graduated from the Sea Cadet Corps in 1875 and joined the Imperial Russian Navy in 1876. In 1878–80 he served aboard the cruiser ''Asia'' with the Russian Pacific Fleet, transferring to the cruiser ''Afrika'' from 1880 to 1883. On 10 July 1883 he was posted to Kronstadt. He was promoted to lieutenant on 1 January 1885 and served aboard the gunboat ''Bobr'' as officer of the watch later that year. He remained on the ''Bobr'' on its long-distance navigational training voyage to the Far East from 1886 to 1888. Johann Hermann Von Fersen
Johann Hermann von Fersen (; 1740 – 9 June 1801) was an Imperial Russian Army officer. Born in Saxony, he joined the Russian army in 1770. Life He was involved in the battles at Larga and Kagul during the Russo-Turkish War of 1768–1774 and in the military operations against Yemelyan Pugachev. He won the battle in Upper Kuban against Seraskier Batal-Bey and his 18,000 Turks and 15,000 Highlanders, capturing Batal-Bey and his whole camp. In 1792 he was appointed quartermaster-general under Mikhaïl Kretchetnikov in Lithuania and in 1794 he commanded a special corps in Poland. Under Paul I of Russia he served first as quartermaster-general then commanded the Russian contingent in the failed 1799 Anglo-Russian invasion of Holland. Fabian Von Fersen (1762–1818)
Count Fabian Reinhold von Fersen (7 October 1762, Stockholm – 10 March 1818, Stockholm) was a Swedish count, politician, officer and courtier. He was the son of Axel von Fersen the Elder and Hedvig Catharina De la Gardie and the brother of Count Axel von Fersen the Younger, Hedvig Eleonora von Fersen and Sophie Piper. Life Fabian von Fersen served in the Royal Life Guards from 1771 and 1796 and climbed through the ranks from an ensign to a colonel lieutenant. In 1793–1802, he was a ''Valet de chambre'' and in 1802–10 a Chamberlain (office) at the royal court. He served as a member of the nobility in the ''riksdag'' several times between 1789 and 1818. In 1796, he belonged to the entourage accompanying Gustav IV Adolf on the king's marriage trip to Russia. Sophie Von Fersen
Countess Eva Sophie Piper, née Eva Sophie von Fersen (30 March 1757 – 2 February 1816, Schloss Löfstad, Lövstad Castle), was a Swedish countess and lady in waiting. She was the daughter of count Axel von Fersen the Elder and Hedvig Catharina von Fersen, and the sister of Axel von Fersen the Younger, Hedvig Eleonora von Fersen and Fabian von Fersen (1762–1818). She is known primarily for her close relationship with Hedvig Elisabeth Charlotte of Holstein-Gottorp, Queen Hedvig Elizabeth Charlotte, who dedicated her famous diary to her.
