FC Džiugas Telšiai
Football Club Džiugas Telšiai, commonly known as Džiugas Telšiai, or simply as Džiugas, is a Lithuanian association football club based in Telšiai, that competes in the A Lyga, top tier of Lithuanian football. History On the 2 November 1923, sport association Džiugas was established in Telšiai. Between 1923 and 1946, the club had football, basketball, ice hockey teams and expanded to other sports of the city. In 1926, Džiugas merged with another sports club "Laimutė" and had 145 official club members. The first director of the board was S. Lukošius. On the 6 June 1927, the football team played their first game against the Lithuanian bicyclist union which finished 2:2. In 1935, 1936, and 1937, Džiugas became the champions of the Samogitia region. Telšiai Central Stadium
The Telšiai Central Stadium is an association football stadium in Telšiai, Lithuania with seating for 2,000 spectators. It is home to A Lyga club FC Džiugas Telšiai. I Lyga
The LFF Pirma Lyga, TOPsport Pirma Lyga, or Pirma Lyga, is the second tier of professional Lithuanian football championship. Format Organized by the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF), I Lyga is contested by 16 teams, with the top team gaining promotion to A Lyga and replaced by the lowest-placed team in top division. The second-placed team qualifies to a promotion play-off with A Lyga's second to last team. Bottom 2 clubs are relegated to the II Lyga, and 3rd last team plays a play-off with the 3rd placed team in II Lyga. The final list of participants often does not correlate to the final results of the previous season, as the participation is finalized through the Lithuanian Football Federation league licensing process. Dejan Trajkovski
Dejan Trajkovski (born 14 April 1992) is a Slovenian footballer who plays as a left-back for Džiugas. Club career Trajkovski signed with Spartak Trnava on 1 February 2021, after being without a club for a year and a half. However, he was released by Spartak in December of the same year. International career Trajkovski received his first call-up to the senior Slovenia squad for the UEFA Euro 2016 qualifier against San Marino in October 2015. Ibrahim Cissé (born 6 December 2003) is an Ivorian professional footballer, playing as a defender for A Lyga club Džiugas. Club career In 2022, he was loaned out Norwegian club Lillestrøm. 2023 A Lyga
The 2023 A Lyga, for sponsorship reasons also called Optibet A lyga was the 34th season of the A Lyga, the top-tier football league of Lithuania. The season began on 3 March 2023 and concluded on 12 November 2023. The winners (Panevėžys) qualified for the 2024–25 Champions League first qualifying round. The runners-up ( Žalgiris) and third-placed team (Šiauliai) qualified for the 2024–25 Conference League first qualifying round. The ninth-placed team (Džiugas) qualified for the A Lyga play-off, winning to retain their place in the league. The bottom-placed team ( Riteriai) were relegated to the 2024 LFF I Lyga. The A Lyga is the top division of professional football in Lithuania. It is organized by Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) (). History The first football league was established in Lithuania in 1924, and in various forms existed until 1939. Due to the Polish–Lithuanian War, clubs from Vilnius did not take part in early period of the Lithuanian football competitions. Later during the period of Soviet occupation, a Lithuanian amateur top division existed, while professional players played in USSR football competitions. The Lithuanian professional top division was restored in 1990. The naming convention changed several times, but since 1999 the league is consistently referred to as A lyga. Format The league system and size have also stabilized since 1999. The season began on 5 March and concluded on 28 November 2021. Teams FK Žalgiris started the season as defending champions. None of the 6 last year's teams were relegated, and 4 teams were promoted to A lyga. Licensing process In addition to sporting principles of promotion and relegation, the teams and clubs need to pass rigorous licensing process. Because of this, promotion and relegation does not always follow the rights achieved by sporting principle. The 2020 LFF I Lyga is the 31st season of the I Lyga, the second tier football league of Lithuania. The season was planned to begin in March, but was delayed to June because of COVID-19 pandemic. The season finished on time on 31 October. Teams Team changes The last-placed A Lyga team is normally relegated to I Lyga. Since FC Stumbras had gone out of business in July 2019, no team was relegated from A Lyga in 2019. The 7th placed team in A Lyga contests a play-off match with 2nd placed I Lyga team. In this play-off match FK Banga Gargždai beat A Lyga side FC Palanga to claim a spot in the A Lyga. The 2018 LFF I Lyga was the 29th season of the I Lyga, the second tier association football league of Lithuania. The season began on 25 March 2018 and ended on 20 October 2018. Teams Changes from last season A total of fifteen clubs were confirmed for the season, same as previous season, but only fourteen competed as Šilutė withdrew 4 days prior to the league's start after an uncompetitive performance in the 2018 Žemaitijos Taurė. Three of them were reserve teams of the A Lyga sides - one less than maximum allowed for the competitions and last season number. Utenis were relegated from the 2017 A Lyga and replaced last year champions Palanga.
