Falling Creek Ironworks
Falling Creek Ironworks was the first iron production facility in North America. It was established by the Virginia Company of London in Henrico City (Virginia Company), Henrico Cittie (sic) on Falling Creek (James River tributary), Falling Creek near its confluence with the James River (Virginia), James River. It was short-lived due to an Indian massacre of 1622, attack by Native Americans in 1622. The long-lost site was rediscovered in the early 21st century. It is now located in Chesterfield County, Virginia, Chesterfield County, about south of the fall line of the James River at present-day Richmond, Virginia. Archaeological and related research work at the site was ongoing as of March 2007. Geography The geology of Virginia's terrain changes from the sandy coastal plain of the Tidewater Region to the more hilly and rocky Piedmont Region along the north-south Atlantic Seaboard fall line, Fall Line. At Richmond, the generally west to east flowing James River turns almost d ...

Italian Cycling Federation
The Italian Cycling Federation or FCI (in Italian: ''Federazione Ciclistica Italiana'') is the national governing body of cycle racing in Italy. The FCI is a member of the UCI and the UEC. History The Italian Cycling Federation was born, under the name ''Unione Velocipedistica Italiana'', in Pavia on December 6, 1885 through the union of 17 cycling clubs, already operating for some time in Italy in an autonomous form. In the second half of 1884, a year before the birth of the FCI, there were 25 regularly established cycling societies: the oldest of these was the ''Veloce Club Fiorentino'' in Florence, established in 1870, while Milan and Turin each hosted three velocipedes societies. An initial attempt to unite and coordinate the activities of these sports clubs was made on the occasion of the competitions staged by the Sports Committee of the Italian General Exhibition in Turin, scheduled for August 23–25, 1884. At the initiative of lawyer Brignone, secretary of the VC ...

French Culinary Institute
The International Culinary Center (originally known as the French Culinary Institute) was a private for-profit culinary school from 1984 to 2020 headquartered in New York City, New York. The facilities included professional kitchens for hands-on cooking and baking classes, wine tasting classrooms, a library, theater, and event spaces. The school merged with the Institute of Culinary Education in 2020. History The International Culinary Center was founded by Dorothy Cann Hamilton in 1984 as the French Culinary Institute. When the school first opened, it was visited by chef Julia Child, who reportedly arranged to have the school profiled on ''Good Morning America'' one week later. In 2020, the International Culinary Center combined with the Institute of Culinary Education, citing issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic for its closure. Locations The International Culinary Center had two campuses, one in New York City and the other in the San Francisco Bay area. The New Y ...

FCC Computer Inquiries
In the United States, the Federal Communications Commission Computer Inquiries were a trio of interrelated FCC Inquiries focused on problems posed by the convergence of regulated telephony with unregulated computing services. These Computer Inquiries created rules and requirements designed to prevent cross subsidization, discrimination, and anti-competitive behavior from companies such as Bell Operating Companies (BOCs) to enter the enhanced services market. Background In the 1960s, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) awoke to the reality of powerful computers running communications networks, and communications networks over which humans interacted with really powerful computers. In 1966, the FCC was interested in the difference between computers that facilitate communications and computers with which people communicate. The FCC had to make a decision on whether both of these types of computers should be regulated as a basic phone service. "The task before the FCC was th ...

Functional Capacity Index
The Functional Capacity Index (FCI) is a measure of a person's level of function for the following 12 months after sustaining some form of illness or injury Injury is physiological damage to the living tissue of any organism, whether in humans, in other animals, or in plants. Injuries can be caused in many ways, including mechanically with penetration by sharp objects such as teeth or with .... The FCI incorporates ten physical functions and gives each a numerical value on a scale of 0 to 100, with 100 representing no limitations on a person's everyday function. Full Configuration Interaction
Full configuration interaction (or full CI) is a linear variational approach which provides numerically exact solutions (within the infinitely flexible complete basis set) to the electronic time-independent, non-relativistic Schrödinger equation. Explanation It is a special case of the configuration interaction method in which ''all'' Slater determinants (or configuration state functions, CSFs) of the proper symmetry are included in the variational procedure (i.e., all Slater determinants obtained by exciting all possible electrons to all possible virtual orbitals, orbitals which are unoccupied in the electronic ground state configuration). This method is equivalent to computing the eigenvalues of the electronic molecular Hamiltonian within the basis set of the above-mentioned configuration state functions. In a minimal basis set a full CI computation is very easy. But in larger basis sets this is usually just a limiting case which is not often attained. This is because ex ...

Force Concept Inventory
The Force Concept Inventory is a test measuring mastery of concepts commonly taught in a first semester of physics developed by Hestenes, Halloun, Wells, and Swackhamer (1985). It was the first such "concept inventory" and several others have been developed since for a variety of topics.Halloun, I. A., & Hestenes, DCommon sense concepts about motion(1985). ''American Journal of Physics'', 53, 1043–1055. The FCI was designed to assess student understanding of the Newtonian concepts of force. Hestenes (1998) found that while "nearly 80% of the tudents completing introductory college physics coursescould state Newton's Third Law at the beginning of the course, FCI data showed that less than 15% of them fully understood it at the end". These results have been replicated in a number of studies involving students at a range of institutions (see sources section below), and have led to greater recognition in the physics education Physics education or physics teaching refers to the ...

Foraminiferal Colouration Index
The Foraminiferal Colouration Index McNeil, D.H., Issler, D.R., and Snowdon, L.R., 1996, Colour alteration, thermal maturity, and burial diagenesis in fossil foraminifers. Geological Survey of Canada, Bulletin 499, 34 p. (FCI) is a tool for assessing the thermal alteration of organic matter buried in sedimentary rock. It uses temperature-controlled colour changes in the organic cement of agglutinated foraminifera (microfossils) to estimate thermal alteration. The method is empirical and based on determination of colour by visual comparison of fossil specimens to the Geological Society of America Rock-Color Chart ( Munsell colour system) under a binocular microscope. The FCI values 0 to 10 are indicated below: Agglutinated foraminifera have a long geological history spanning the Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic. The FCI has many potential applications especially in the analysis of samples from hydrocarbon exploration wells.McNeil, D.H., Dietrich, J.R., Issler, D.A., Grasby, ...

Curie (unit)
The curie (symbol Ci) is a non- SI unit of radioactivity originally defined in 1910. According to a notice in ''Nature'' at the time, it was to be named in honour of Pierre Curie, but was considered at least by some to be in honour of Marie Skłodowska-Curie as well, and is in later literature considered to be named for both. It was originally defined as "the quantity or mass of radium emanation in equilibrium with one gram of radium (element)", but is currently defined as 1 Ci = decays per second after more accurate measurements of the activity of Ra (which has a specific activity of ). In 1975 the General Conference on Weights and Measures gave the becquerel (Bq), defined as one nuclear decay per second, official status as the SI unit of activity. Therefore: : 1 Ci = = 37 GBq and : 1 Bq ≅ ≅ 27 pCi While its continued use is discouraged by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and other bodies, the curie is still widely used throughout gover ...

Facility Condition Index
The facility condition index (FCI) is used in facilities management to provide a benchmark to compare the relative condition of a group of facilities. The FCI is primarily used to support asset management initiatives of federal, state, and local government facilities organizations. This would also include universities, housing and transportation authorities, and primary and secondary school systems. Mathematically the FCI is represented as Maintenance, Repair, and Replacement Deficiencies of the Facility(-ies) FCI = ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Current Replacement Value of the Facility(-ies) The FCI as a tool was first published in 1991 by the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO). History Applied Management Engineering (AME) was approached by a research group working on a project that was sponsored bNACUBO The group asked for a written description of the facility condition asse ...

Food Corporation Of India F
Food is any substance consumed by an organism for nutritional support. Food is usually of plant, animal, or fungal origin and contains essential nutrients such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals. The substance is ingested by an organism and assimilated by the organism's cells to provide energy, maintain life, or stimulate growth. Different species of animals have different feeding behaviours that satisfy the needs of their metabolisms and have evolved to fill a specific ecological niche within specific geographical contexts. Omnivorous humans are highly adaptable and have adapted to obtaining food in many different ecosystems. Humans generally use cooking to prepare food for consumption. The majority of the food energy required is supplied by the industrial food industry, which produces food through intensive agriculture and distributes it through complex food processing and food distribution systems. This system of conventional agriculture r ...
