The five Regions of Denmark () were created as administrative entities at a level above the municipalities and below the central government in the public sector as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform, when the 13 Counties of Denmark, counties (''Amt (country subdivision), amter'') were abolished. At the same time, the number of municipalities (''Commune (country subdivision), kommuner'') was cut from 270 (Ærø Municipality, from 271 in 2006) to Municipalities of Denmark, 98. The reform was approved and made into a law by the lawmakers in the Folketing 26 June 2005 with 2005 Danish local elections, elections to the 98 municipalities and 5 regions being held Tuesday 15 November 2005. Svend Wiig Hansen
Svend Wiig Hansen (20 December 1922 – 15 March 1997) was a Danish sculptor and painter. Biography Wiig Hansen was born in Møgeltønder. He was initially undecided about his career, working as a circus clown and a singer until a job requiring his help in the completion of climbing angels convinced him he should become a sculptor. After studying at the Danish Academy under Johannes Bjerg and Einar Utzon-Frank (1946–1950), his early sculptures included his monumental burnt clay ''Torso'' (1951) inspired by Aristide Maillol and his cement ''Moder Jord'' (Mother Earth, 1953) influenced in part by precolumbian sculpture. The gigantic group sculpture of ''Mennesket ved havet'' ( Men at Sea, (1994) near Esbjerg is inspired by Cycladic art and the figures on Easter Island. Sædding
Sædding is a district of Esbjerg in southwest Jutland, Denmark, some northwest of the centre and southeast of Hjerting. History Once a village, Sædding (originally ''Sæthum'', later also ''Sæddæn'') has now become a district of Esbjerg. In the 1970s, a large Viking village was discovered in the northern part of Sædding covering . In the central area, there were six or seven farmhouses surrounding an extensive open area measuring by . The main buildings, up to in length, were accompanied by smaller structures including workshops for weavers and smiths. In all, there were 115 farmhouses, 75 workshops and seven wells. The village had existed for some 200 years until the 11th century. One of Denmark's oldest Christian crosses crafted in bronze was found at the site.
