Durrës ( , ; sq-definite, Durrësi) is the List of cities and towns in Albania#List, second most populous city of the Albania, Republic of Albania and county seat, seat of Durrës County and Durrës Municipality. It is one of Albania's oldest list of oldest continuously inhabited cities, continuously inhabited cities, with roughly 2,500 years of recorded history. It is located on a flat plain along the Albanian Adriatic Sea Coast between the mouths of the Erzen River, Erzen and Ishëm (river), Ishëm at the southeastern corner of the Adriatic Sea. Durrës' climate is profoundly influenced by a seasonal Mediterranean climate. Durrës County (), officially the County of Durrës (), is a Counties of Albania, county in the Northern Albania, Northern Region of the Republic of Albania. It is the smallest by area and the List of counties of Albania by population, second most populous of the twelve counties, with 292,029 people within an area of . The county borders on the Adriatic Sea to the west, the counties of Lezhë County, Lezhë to the north, Dibër County, Dibër to the east and Tirana County, Tirana to the south. It is divided into three Municipalities of Albania, municipalities, Durrës, Krujë and Shijak, with all of whom incorporate sixteen Villages of Durrës County, administrative units.
