Dunaújváros (; also known by #Etymology and names, alternative names) is an industrial city in Fejér County, Central Hungary. It is a city with county rights. Situated 70 kilometres (43 miles) south of Budapest on the Danube, the city is best known for its steelworks, which is the largest in the country. It was built in the 1950s on the site of the former village of Dunapentele and was originally named Sztálinváros, before acquiring its current name in 1961. Geography Dunaújváros is located in the Transdanubian part of the Great Hungarian Plain (called Mezőföld), south of Budapest on the Danube, Highway 6, Motorways M6 motorway (Hungary), M6, M8 motorway (Hungary), M8 and the electrified Budapest-Pusztaszabolcs-Dunaújváros-Paks railway. Dunaújváros () is a district in south-eastern part of Fejér County. ''Dunaújváros'' is also the name of the town where the district seat is found. The district is located in the Central Transdanubia Statistical Region. M6 Motorway (Hungary)
The M6 motorway () is a north-south motorway in Hungary running along the Danube connecting Budapest to Mohács, and the section further south to the Croatia, Croatian border is under construction. The southernmost Bóly - Ivándárda (border crossing with Croatia) section is currently under construction with a planned inauguration date in 2024. The connecting segment of the A5 (Croatia), A5 in Croatia is also under construction, with the completion scheduled for 2023. Fejér County
Fejér (, ) is an administrative county in central Hungary. It lies on the west bank of the river Danube and nearly touches the eastern shore of Lake Balaton. It shares borders with the Hungarian counties Veszprém, Komárom-Esztergom County, Pest, Bács-Kiskun County, Tolna and Somogy. The capital of Fejér county is Székesfehérvár. Pusztaszabolcs
Pusztaszabolcs is a town in Fejér County, Hungary. Flanked by the loess fields of the Mezőföld and the Danube back-swamps, Pusztaszabolcs occupies at the junction of three main railway corridors—Budapest–Pécs, Székesfehérvár–Paks and the freight cut-off to Dunaújváros. History Although first attested as Zabolch in a 1270 charter, the modern settlement coalesced only after 1861, when the Southern State Railway opened a station on the freshly laid Budapest–Zimony line; within a decade trackside plots were selling for twice the price of the surrounding cropland. Town With County Rights
A city with county rights (or urban county, Hungarian language, Hungarian: ''megyei jogú város'', MJV) is a level of administrative subdivision in Hungary. Since 1994 all county seats are automatically awarded this status, and between 2012–2022 this was the only way a city could earn county rights. All cities earned this status before 2012 have retained their status and there is no way to revoke the title by the law. From 2006 until 2022, there were 23 cities with county rights, and 25 since 1 May 2022. Before 1950, cities with former "municipal rights" ''(törvényhatósági jogú város)'' had a similar status as the present urban counties. Districts of Hungary are the second-level divisions of Hungary after counties. They replaced the 175 subregions of Hungary in 2013. There are 174 districts in the 19 counties, and there are 23 districts in Budapest.
