Drexel is a city in northwest Bates and southwest Cass counties in the U.S. state of Missouri. The population was 968 at the 2020 census. History Drexel was originally called Stuart City, and under the latter name was platted in 1890. The present name of Drexel was the name of a local store owner. A post office called Drexel has been in operation since 1891. In June 2010, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources warned of a spike of 31.2 parts herbicide atrazine per billion in Drexel's public water supply. The maximum contaminant level set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for long term exposure is 3 parts per billion. Geography Drexel is in central Montgomery County, in the northeast corner of Jefferson Township. It is bordered to the north by the city of Trotwood and to the east by the city of Dayton. U.S. Route 35 passes through the east part of Drexel as a four-lane highway, then turns west and forms the northern boundary of the community as West Third Street. Disappearance Of Brittanee Drexel
On the night of April 25, 2009, 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel of Chili, New York, United States, left a hotel in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she had been staying with friends over spring break. Drexel walked to another hotel a short distance away, and from there, texted her boyfriend to say that she was heading back to her hotel. It was the last time she was known to be alive. Police investigated Drexel's disappearance but no developments were made public until 2016, when it was announced that a prison inmate had told them that she had been abducted and killed. The man accused by the informant denied knowledge of any alleged crime. Based on that information, the FBI considered the case a homicide. In May 2022, police arrested Raymond Moody, a registered sex offender in the area, on charges of murder, kidnapping, and first-degree criminal sexual conduct; he pleaded guilty to all charges in October.
