Downham, London
Downham is a district of South East Greater London, London, England, mainly within the London Borough of Lewisham. and partly within London Borough of Bromley. Downham was named in honour of Hayes Fisher, 1st Baron Downham, Lord Downham, who was chairman of the London County Council between 1919 and 1920. The Prime Meridian passes just to the west of Downham. British Film-maker Luna Carmoon was raised in the area and made her first two shorts and her debut feature Hoard in the area. She refers to them as her Downham Trilogy'. Lewisham East (UK Parliament Constituency)
Lewisham East is a parliamentary constituency in South London represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since the by-election on 14 June 2018 by Janet Daby of the Labour Party. Constituency profile The constituency stretches from affluent Blackheath to the wards to the south of the constituency which contain more social housing and less architectural grandeur. Incidence of social deprivation is highest towards central Lewisham and the Rushey Green area of Catford, a low-to-middle income area which was home to one of the first indoor shopping malls in England. At the southern end of the constituency is Grove Park, one of the quieter and more prosperous parts of Lewisham, and more marginal between Labour and the Conservatives than the rest of the borough. Rotherhithe
Rotherhithe ( ) is a district of South London, England, and part of the London Borough of Southwark. It is on a peninsula on the south bank of the Thames, facing Wapping, Shadwell and Limehouse on the north bank, with the Isle of Dogs to the east. It borders Bermondsey to the west and Deptford to the south-east. The district is a part of the London Docklands, Docklands area. Rotherhithe has a long history as a port, with Elizabethan era, Elizabethan shipyards and working docks until the 1970s. Green Chain Walk
The South East London Green Chain, also known as the Green Chain Walk, is a linked system of open spaces between the River Thames and Crystal Palace Park in London, England. In 1977 four London boroughs and the Greater London Council created this Green Chain of 300 open spaces to protect them from building activity. The four London boroughs are Bexley, Bromley, Lewisham and Greenwich. More recently it has been extended to include sections in Southwark. Many parts of the system are also part of the Capital Ring route. The system begins at three places on the River Thames: Thames Barrier, Thamesmead, and the riverside at Erith. There are various circular walks along the route, and there is an offshoot from the main route to Chislehurst; and the next section reaches Crystal Palace via Bromley. Bonus Pastor Catholic College
Bonus Pastor Catholic College is a voluntary aided, Roman Catholic coeducational school for 900 pupils. The school was founded by the Catholic Church in September 1958 to provide education for children of Catholic families. The College today Bonus Pastor is based on two sites; Winlaton and Churchdown. The playing fields in Whitefoot Lane, adjacent to the school, are used for games and athletics. The college works very closely with the local primary schools and Christ the King Sixth Form College. Leadership of the College Mr C Mahon effective from January 2025, has become the Principal of Bonus Pastor Catholic College. A quasar ( ) is an extremely luminous active galactic nucleus (AGN). It is sometimes known as a quasi-stellar object, abbreviated QSO. Downham Fields is a 20-acre park located in Downham, South East London. It is sometimes referred to in documents by the name Durham Hill, but this is not in common usage. It was left as parkland during the construction of the interwar Downham Estate because its steep hill made building difficult. Bellingham ( ) is an area of south-east London, England, within the London Borough of Lewisham. It lies south of Catford, east of Sydenham and north of Beckenham, and is part of the Catford postal district (SE6). History According to author and historian Nick Barratt, there was certainly a Saxon community at Bellingham. In 10th-century Anglo-Saxon charters, the place is referred to as ''Beringaham'' and by 1198 the name had changed from starting with 'Ber' to 'Bel' through Norman influence. Beckenham () is a town in Greater London, England, within the London Borough of Bromley. Prior to 1965, it was part of Kent. Grove Park is a district of South East London, England within the London Borough of Lewisham. It is located north east of Bromley and south east of Lewisham. Known for its green spaces, Grove Park is flanked by the Grove Park Nature Reserve and Northbrook Park, and Downham Fields to the west, Horn Park to the East, as well as Chinbrook Meadows, Kings Meadow and Sundridge Park to the south.
