Ditidaht First Nation
The Ditidaht [dee-tee-dot] First Nation is a First Nations in Canada, First Nations band government on southern Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. The government has 17 reserve lands: Ahuk, Tsuquanah, Wyah, Clo-oose, Cheewat, Sarque, Carmanah, Iktuksasuk, Hobitan, Oyees, Doobah, Malachan, Opatseeah, Wokitsas, Chuchummisapo and Saouk. Several of these traditional communities and the West Coast Trail became part of the newly established Pacific Rim National Park Reserve in 1973. ''First Nations'' () is a term used to identify Indigenous peoples in Canada who are neither Inuit nor Métis. In Canada, an Indian band (), First Nation band () or simply band, is the basic unit of government for those peoples subject to the ''Indian Act'' (i.e. status Indians or First Nations). West Coast Trail
The West Coast Trail, originally called the Dominion Lifesaving Trail, is a Backpacking (wilderness), backpacking trail following the southwestern edge of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. Pacific Rim National Park Reserve is a National Parks of Canada, national park located in British Columbia, Canada, which comprises three separate regions: Long Beach (British Columbia), Long Beach, the Broken Group Islands, and the West Coast Trail. The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council is a First Nations Tribal Council in the Canadian province of British Columbia, located on the west coast of Vancouver Island. The organization is based in Port Alberni, British Columbia. History The different Nuu-chah-nulth tribes share many aspects of their language and cultural traditions. Nuu-chah-nulth peoples founded an organization called the West Coast Allied Tribes in 1958. In 1973, they incorporated a non-profit society called the West Coast District Society of Indian Chiefs, also known as the West Coast District Council. Nuu-chah-nulth People
The Nuu-chah-nulth ( ; ), also formerly referred to as the Nootka, Nutka, Aht, Nuuchahnulth or Tahkaht, are one of the Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast in Canada. The term Nuu-chah-nulth is used to describe fifteen related tribes whose traditional home is on the west coast of Vancouver Island. In precontact and early post-contact times, the number of tribes was much greater, but the smallpox epidemics and other consequences of contact with Europeans resulted in the disappearance of some groups and the absorption of others into neighbouring groups. Ditidaht Kids
''Ditidaht Kids'' is a Canadian mobile game developed by the language department of the Ditidaht Community School (DCS), who are members of the Ditidaht First Nation in Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The game was created to teach Ditidaht children aged 3 to 6 about their language, territory, traditions, and culture in preparation for them attending kindergarten at the DCS. Ditidaht Kids involves an interactive canoe journey through Ditidaht territory. The game was funded by the First Peoples' Cultural Council (FPCC) and the Ditidaht Community School collaborated with elder teachers, knowledge keepers, fluent speakers, historians, researchers, voice actors, songwriters, children, and parents to develop the game.
