Delray Beach Open
The Delray Beach Open is an ATP World Tour 250 series men's professional tennis tournament held each year in Delray Beach, Florida, United States. Played on hard courts, it was previously known as America's Red Clay Championships, Citrix Tennis Championships, and the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships. The event was held in Coral Springs from 1993 to 1998; in 1999, it was relocated to the Delray Beach Tennis Center. American Todd Martin won the tournament's first singles event in 1993. The tournament was previously named the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships (ITC) before being changed to its current name in 2014. Delray Beach is a city in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population of Delray Beach as of April 1, 2020, was 66,846 according to the 2020 United States census, 2020 United States Census. Located in the Miami metropolitan area, Delray Beach is 52 miles (83 kilometers) north of Miami. History Early years The earliest known human inhabitants of what is now Delray Beach were the Jaega people. Tequesta Indians likely passed through or inhabited the area at various times. Few other recorded details of these local indigenous settlements have survived. An 1841 U.S. military map shows a Seminole camp located in the area now known as Lake Ida. In 1876, the United States Life Saving Service built the Houses of Refuge in Florida, Orange Grove House of Refuge to rescue and shelter ship-wrecked sailors. Radu Albot (born 11 November 1989) is a Moldovan professional tennis player. He achieved a career high ranking of No. 39 on 5 August 2019, making him the highest ranked player from Moldova. He is the first player from Moldova to win ATP Tour titles in singles ( 2019 Delray Beach Open) and in doubles ( 2015 Istanbul Open). He is also the first Moldovan to break into the top 100 on 27 July 2015 and four years later in the top 50. He is currently the No. 1 Moldovan player.
