Great Southern And Western Railway
The Great Southern and Western Railway (GS&WR) was an Irish gauge () railway company in Ireland from 1844 until 1924. The grew by building lines and making a series of takeovers, until in the late 19th and early 20th centuries it was the largest of Ireland's "Big Four" railway networks. At its peak the had an network, of which were double track. The core of the was the Dublin Heuston railway station, Dublin Kingsbridge – main line; Ireland's "Premier Line", and still one of her most important main line railways. The company's headquarters were at Kingsbridge station. At its greatest extent the included, in addition to the Dublin – Cork main line, the Dublin – and – Waterford lines and numerous branch lines. Origins There had been earlier attempts to set up main line railways to the south of Ireland but the 1840s efforts of Peter Purcell, a wealthy landowner and mail coach operator, and his associates were ultimately to prove successful with the implementation ...

Dopamine Receptor D3
Dopamine receptor D3 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ''DRD3'' gene. This gene encodes the D3 subtype of the dopamine receptor. The D3 subtype inhibits adenylyl cyclase through inhibitory G-proteins. This receptor is expressed in phylogenetically older regions of the brain, suggesting that this receptor plays a role in cognitive and emotional functions. It is a target for drugs which treat schizophrenia, drug addiction, and Parkinson's disease. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants that would encode different isoforms, although some variants may be subject to nonsense-mediated decay (NMD). On a side note, it is also the Dopamine Receptor sub-type possessing the highest binding affinity for Dopamine itself and may explain why non- ergoline Dopamine Agonists are D3-preferring Function Alpha-synuclein (α-Syn) aggregation via Lewy bodies inclusion, a pathogenic signature exclusively present in PD patients, is decreased by D3 ago ...

Hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane
Hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane, also known as D3 and D3, is the organosilicon compound with the formula . It is a colorless or white volatile solid. It finds limited use in organic chemistry. The larger tetrameric and pentameric siloxanes, respectively octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane and decamethylcyclopentasiloxane, are of significant industrial interest, whereas 1,000–10,000 tonnes per year of the trimer is manufactured and/or imported in the European Economic Area. Structure and reactions Hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane adopts a planar structure and is considered strained. It reacts with organolithium reagents to give, after hydrolysis, dimethylsilanols: : : Safety and environmental considerations The LD50 for the related pentamer (D5) is >50 g/kg in rats. Nikon D3
The Nikon D3 is a 12.0-megapixel professional-grade full frame (35 mm) digital single lens reflex camera (DSLR) announced by the Nikon Corporation on 23 August 2007 along with the Nikon D300 DX format camera. It was Nikon's first full-frame DSLR. The D3, along with the Nikon D3X, was a flagship model in Nikon's line of DSLRs, superseding the D2Hs and D2Xs. It was replaced by the D3S as Nikon's flagship DSLR. The D3, D3X, D3S, D4, D4s, D5, D6, D700, D800, D800Е and Df are the only Nikon FX format DSLRs manufactured in Japan. The D3S was replaced by the D4 in 2012. Technology The D3 features a full-frame 35 mm equivalent CMOS image sensor measuring 23.9 mm × 36.0 mm. This sensor is larger than the DX format sensors of all previous Nikon DSLRs, and Nikon has coined the term " FX format" to describe it. While the D3's sensor has larger pixels than some previous DX sensors, some previous DX sensors have larger pixels. The design of the D3's CMOS ...

D-3 (video)
D-3 is an uncompressed composite digital video format invented at NHK and introduced commercially by Panasonic. It was launched in 1991 to compete with Ampex's D-2. Overview D-3 uses half-inch metal particle tape at 83.88 mm/s (compare to D-2's 19 mm and 131.7 mm/s). Like D-2, the composite video signal is sampled at four times the color subcarrier frequency, with eight bits per sample. Four channels of 48 kHz 16–20 bit PCM audio, and other ancillary data, are inserted during the vertical blanking interval. The aggregate net (error corrected) bitrate of the format is 143 Mbit/s, and because the codec is lossless, it has been used in data applications. Camcorders were available which used this format, and are to date the only digital tape camcorders to use a lossless encoding scheme. The D-5 digital component video format, introduced in 1993 by Panasonic, uses the D-3 transport and tape running at roughly double D-3 speed. The D-3 transport in ...

D-brane
In string theory, D-branes, short for Dirichlet membrane, are a class of extended objects upon which open strings can end with Dirichlet boundary conditions, after which they are named. D-branes are typically classified by their spatial dimension, which is indicated by a number written after the ''D.'' A D0-brane is a single point, a D1-brane is a line (sometimes called a "D-string"), a D2-brane is a plane, and a D25-brane fills the highest-dimensional space considered in bosonic string theory. There are also instantonic D(−1)-branes, which are localized in both space and time. Discovery D-branes were discovered by Jin Dai, Robert Leigh, and Joseph Polchinski, and independently by Petr Hořava, in 1989. In 1995, Polchinski identified D-branes with black p-brane solutions of supergravity, a discovery that triggered the second superstring revolution and led to both holographic and M-theory dualities. Theoretical background The equations of motion of string theory r ...

Dihedral Group Of Order 6
In mathematics, D3 (sometimes alternatively denoted by D6) is the dihedral group of degree (permutation group), degree 3 and Order of a group, order 6. It equals the symmetric group S3. It is also the smallest non-abelian group.. For the identification of D3 with S3, and the observation that this group is the smallest possible non-abelian group, sep. 49 This page illustrates many group concepts using this group as example. Symmetries of an equilateral triangle The dihedral group D3 is the symmetry group of an equilateral triangle, that is, it is the set of all rigid transformations (reflections, rotations, and combinations of these) that leave the shape and position of this triangle fixed. In the case of D3, every possible permutation of the triangle's vertices constitutes such a transformation, so that the group of these symmetries is isomorphic to the symmetric group S3 of all permutations of three distinct elements. This is not the case for dihedral groups of higher or ...

D3-class Motor Torpedo Boat
The D-3-class, designated Project P-19, was a class of Soviet wooden motor torpedo boats (MTB) built before and during World War II. The D stands for Derevyanniy (Russian: Деревянный, wooden). Design and development In 1935 the Soviet Navy begun working on larger MTBs that possessed higher endurance than the previous numerous G-5 class. In 1937, the specifications for were issued with 2 designs created, the wooden D-2 and the Steel SM-3. During testing the SM-3 suffered hull cracks at high speeds and the D-2 had poor stability so neither entered production. Nevertheless, both were commissioned into the Black Sea Fleet. The D-3 was a development of the D-2, with the prototype completed in 1939 and production ordered before trials of the prototype boat had begun. They were originally designed with 3 Mikulan GAM-34FN engines driving 3 shafts, but their unreliability and discontinuation in 1940 meant that the less powerful GAM-34BS engines were equipped instead. This reduc ...
