Cycling At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's Sprint
The men's Sprint (track cycling), sprint at the 2016 Summer Olympics, 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro took place on 12–14 August 2016. There were 27 competitors from 16 nations, as once again nations were allowed to enter up to two cyclists (the limit had fluctuated between one and two since 1928). The event was won by Jason Kenny of Great Britain, successfully defending his gold from 2012 and making it the third straight Games that Great Britain was atop the podium for the sprint. Kenny was the third man to win two consecutive gold medals in the sprint, fourth man to win two golds at any point, and third man to win three medals of any color. He beat his teammate Callum Skinner in the final; it was the second time in three Games that Great Britain had both the top spots—and potentially could have been the third if nations had not been limited to a single cyclist in 2012. Denis Dmitriev
Denis Sergeyevich Dmitriev (; born 23 March 1986) is a Russian track cyclist. Specialising in the sprint events, Dmitriev's best result in international sports was winning a gold medal at the 2017 World Championships in Hong Kong. At the 2016 Summer Olympics he succeeded to the bronze medal race in sprint, winning the medal. Dmitriev is a four-time European Champion at senior level in the Sprint event for men, and the most successful sprint cyclist in the competitions's history. Matthew Glaetzer (born 24 August 1992) is an Australian Track cycling, track cyclist specialising in sprint events. He has represented Australia at four Olympic Games (2012 Summer Olympics, 2012, 2016 Summer Olympics, 2016, 2020 Summer Olympics, 2020 and 2024 Summer Olympics, 2024). Pavel Kelemen (born 28 May 1991) is a Czech racing cyclist who currently rides for UCI Continental team . In 2011 Pavel Kelemen was part of the Czech team sprint team at the European Championships in Apeldoorn, together with Denis Špička and Filip Ditzel. The team finished in 8th. Edward James Dawkins (born 11 July 1989) is a New Zealand track cyclist. At the 2010 Commonwealth Games he won the silver medal in the men's sprint and the bronze medal in the men's 1 kilometre time trial. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, he won the bronze medal in the men's sprint, and was part of the New Zealand time that won the gold medal in the team sprint, with Ethan Mitchell and Sam Webster. The team sprint team set two Commonwealth Games records along the way. Sam Webster (born 16 July 1991) is a former New Zealand track cyclist. He was the sprint, keirin and team sprint World Champion at the 2009 Junior World Championships and New Zealand national track cycling champion. He won gold medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in the individual sprint and the team sprint. Biography Born in Auckland in 1991, Webster attended Auckland Grammar School. Webster is a track cyclist competing in a variety of sprint disciplines. His palmarès include a gold medal at the January 2009 Australian Youth Olympic Festival in the men's sprint. At the Junior World Championship in August 2009 in Moscow, he won gold in the team sprint, Keirin and sprint. From the Junior World Championships, he moved into the elite category. Jeffrey Hoogland
Jeffrey Hoogland (born 16 March 1993) is a Dutch track cyclist. He represented his nation in eleven editions of the UCI Track Cycling World Championships (since 2013). At the 2015 UEC European Track Championships, he collected a total of three gold medals, individually in the sprint and the 1 km time trial, and with Nils van 't Hoenderdaal and Hugo Haak in the team sprint. On 31 Oct 2023, Hoogland beat the 10 year old 1 km world record with the time of 55.433 sec. He is a 6-time World Champion in the team sprint (2018-2021, 2023-2024) and a 4-time World Champion in the 1 km time trial (2018, 2021-2023).
