The Men's individual sprint track cycling event at the 2012 Summer Paralympics took place on September 2 at London Velopark Lee Valley VeloPark is a cycling centre in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London, England. The event was contested by blind and visually impaired cyclists riding with sighted pilots. Times set in the qualification stage were used to position riders in the knock-out bracket, and subsequently to determine which riders competed for 5th and 6th positions (i.e. those in the original top 6 who did not reach the medal matches). London Velopark
Lee Valley VeloPark is a cycling centre in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London, England. It is owned and managed by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, and it was opened to the public in March 2014. The facility was one of the permanent venues for the 2012 2012 Summer Olympics, Olympic and 2012 Summer Paralympics, Paralympic Games. Lee Valley VeloPark is at the northern end of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. It has an indoor velodrome and a BMX racing track, which have been used for the Games, as well as a one-mile (1.6 km) road bicycle racing, road course and 5 miles (8 km) of Trail#Bicycle trail, mountain bike trails. The park replaces the Eastway Cycle Circuit demolished to make way for it. The facilities built for the Olympics were constructed between 2009 and 2011. Patrick Bos (born 20 August 1987) is a Dutch cyclist who rides as a sighted guide, sighted pilot for blind or partially sighted athletes in tandem track and road events. He competed at the 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024 Paralympic Games, having won four medals. Career Along with Rinne Oost, Bos won the bronze medal in the Cycling at the 2012 Summer Paralympics – men's 1 km time trial B, men's 1 km time trial B event. At the 2019 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships held in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, Tristan Bangma and Bos won the bronze medal in the men's time trial B event. Anthony Edward Kappes MBE (born 1 March 1973) is an English road and track racing cyclist and Paralympian. Biography Born in Stockport, Cheshire, Kappes is partially sighted and competes in the B&VI 1–3 class. He is the current World record holder for 200 metres, along with his pilot Barney Storey. Storey and Kappes became the first Paralympic team to hold the able-bodied British National Tandem Sprint Championships title in 2006. Kappes, began working with a new tandem pilot internationally in 2008, Jon Norfolk sacrificed his career as a member of Great Britain's able-bodied squad in order to work with Paralympians, and had to take a three-year break from competition in order to qualify.
