The women's cross-country mountain biking event at the 2024 Summer Olympics took place on 28 July 2024 at Colline d'Élancourt (Elancourt Hill) which is the highest point in the Paris region. 36 cyclists from 28 nations competed. Background This was the 8th appearance of the event, which has been held at every Summer Olympics since mountain bike cycling was added to the programme in 1996. The reigning Olympic champion was Jolanda Neff Jolanda Neff (born 5 January 1993) is a Swiss cyclist, who primarily rides in the cross-country cycling and cyclo-cross disciplines, for the Cannondale Factory Racing team. Savilia Blunk ( ; born May 30, 1999) is an American cross-country mountain biker. Blunk grew up in Inverness, California, and later competed for Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. She is a two-time national cross-country champion, and also won the cross-country short track title in 2023. She also finished 8th in the cross-country short track race and 10th in the Olympic cross-country race at the 2023 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships. Ella MacLean-Howell (born 1 September 2004) is a British mountain bike cross country cyclist and cyclo-cross competitor from Wales. Early life From Llantrisant in Wales, she rode as a youngster for Maindy Flyers and Cardiff J.I.F. She finished third in the girls under-16s race at the National Cyclo-Cross Championships in Gravesend in 2019. She competed at the 2022 UCI World Mountain Bike Championships, where she finished 5th in the junior race. Candice Lill (née Neethling; born 15 February 1992) is a South African cyclist who competes in the Cross-country and road bicycle racing disciplines of the sport. Life At the 2012 Summer Olympics, Lill competed in the Women's cross-country at Hadleigh Farm, finishing in 28th (last) place. She participated at the 2013 World Championships which were held in Pietermaritzburg. No South African cross country cyclists qualified for the 2016 Olympics, and Lill herself spent that time focussing on road racing, returning to cross country cycling in 2018.
