Cycling At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's Keirin
The men's Keirin at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro took place at the Rio Olympic Velodrome on 16 August. The medals were presented by Prince Tunku Imran, IOC member, Malaysia and Dr Wagih Azzam, Vice President of the UCI. Competition format The Keirin races involved 5.5 laps of the track behind a motorcycle, followed by a 2.5 lap sprint to the finish. The tournament consisted of preliminary heats and repechages, a semi-finals round, and the finals. The heats and repechages narrowed the field to 12. The semi-finals divided the remaining 12 into six finalists. The finals round also included a ranking race for 7th to 12th place. Rio Olympic Velodrome
The Rio Olympic Velodrome, officially the Velódromo Municipal do Rio (''Rio Municipal Velodrome''), is a velodrome located in the Barra Olympic Park sports complex in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Built as a replacement for the former Barra Velodrome, the venue hosted Cycling at the 2016 Summer Olympics, track cycling events during the 2016 Summer Olympics and 2016 Summer Paralympics. Following the conclusion of the games, the velodrome is now a part of the Olympic Training Center (Rio de Janeiro), Olympic Training Center and now houses the Rio Olympic Museum. Design The Rio Olympic Velodrome was designed by Schuermann Architects, a German design group led by Ralph Schuermann. Theo Bos (born 22 August 1983) is a Dutch former professional road and track cyclist. An Olympic silver medalist and five-time world champion, he is the brother of Olympic medalist in speed skating Jan Bos. On 29 November 2021, he announced his retirement from professional cycling and took up the job of coach of the Chinese national track team. Early life Bos was born in Hierden, Netherlands. Pavel Kelemen (born 28 May 1991) is a Czech racing cyclist who currently rides for UCI Continental team . Edward James Dawkins (born 11 July 1989) is a New Zealand track cyclist. At the 2010 Commonwealth Games he won the silver medal in the men's sprint and the bronze medal in the men's 1 kilometre time trial. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, he won the bronze medal in the men's sprint, and was part of the New Zealand time that won the gold medal in the team sprint, with Ethan Mitchell and Sam Webster.
